I was horrible at math in HS. Then in enlisted in the AF, they made me an electronics repairman, missing the math so (goody) I got to go to math school 6 hrs a day 5 days a week for 10 weeks. The incentive to pass the weekly tests was that you could go on to the electronics repair course that was 15 months long. Failing 2 tests and you became either a boom operator refueling planes in mid air or a tail gunner in a B52 or physical security (a guard) for aircraft which was the worst job.
