My mother used to give money to the guys standing in the median with their signs, and I told her the news had some of those guys were making over 500 dollars a day. She told me that she gave in the Spirit which Jesus intended, and what they did with it was not her concern.
Am I the only one that see this type of action are the opposite of kindness? They are enabling. Likely they use the money to buy liquor or drugs. The money/time would be far better spent at a homeless shelter.
Some “homeless beggars” in this town turned out to be living in luxury homes and they had a whole begging racket, even hiring minors to beg for them. I don’t give to beggars who are just standing on the street, but if they ask for work, then those are the real thing.
I like to help people who need it, but all too often I have found that they didn’t want food, or gasoline, or something practical and helpful like that, they wanted the money for the sorts of things that probably contributed to their being homeless or otherwise needy in the first place.
I think if they are violent is mostly because of mental health issues, which is not something they can help on their own. I help homeless people in my neighborhood whenever I can, and they’ve all been very greatful and as polite as they can be.

That’s very sweet. But I don’t know how safe that would be, especially now.
