When did they let blind pilots fly?

I. F. R. = Instrumental flight rules. In other words, using only the aircraft instrument panel for navigation (according to Wikipedia.)

When learning how to fly by instruments only (as opposed to VFR - Visual Flight Rules), the student pilot wears a visor that blocks their view of the window so they have to depend on the instruments.

Of course, in the old days, IFR stood for “I Follow Roads.”
