Um … actually … football sounds exactly like the game it is. If you put “American” (or “Australian rules”) in front of football, that’s when it get’s confusing. ;-)

It’s mostly played with hand, not feet. And that isn’t a ball.

They only named the American version “Football” because nobody would buy tickets to a game called "Prima Donnas in Armor Playing With an Elipisoid Bladder

In the beginning of the game, way back, there was more kicking of the ball.There was more kicking than passing.The quarterback had the option of using a kick as a form of passing the ball to receivers down field.

Aaahh the long deceased art of the drop kick. That art form went the same way as the quarterback calling their own plays, making adjustments on the fly, and having to wait until the half to reports from on high.

When you break it down there is only 3 to 4 minutes of actual “play” in US football per game. They have 20 seconds to get the play in motion, a lot of time is wasted on penalties, challenges, time-outs, and standing in the huddle, and injuries. But as far as injuries, at least no one drops to the ground faking an injury like they do many times a game in soccer…or do they?

It hung in the air, exactly like a brick wouldn’t.

Handball was taken already.

I got the feeling it was saying that football is something that we call soccer.

I believe it is safe to say that all the above who are bad-mouthing football have never made the varsity team. If you’ve played it, you have to love it.

That’s okay, our Thanksgiving is actually for mass consumption of food and Xmas is for a materialistic orgy.

Football: 12 and a half minutes of action crammed into and half hours.

I particularly like to watch the Army-Navy game. You won’t see a lot of personal fouls or unsportsmanship like conduct penalties in that game in spite of the fact that for each school it isn’t the big game; it’s the only game. And don’t tell me that those players aren’t “pumped up.” Cadets and Midshipmen are not accepted into their respective academies based on how meek they are. Yet you will see a clean game.

The difference between men and boys is that men have self-discipline. Discipline is a rare talent in the so-called pros.

As time has gone by I’ve given up watching all sports on TV. Slowly it has come to more ad time than play time.

Wow, for a game that no one is being forced to play or watch, football sure brings out strong emotions!

A game that sounds exactly like it isn’t.

Just like everything else in American politics.

In Europe American football is sometimes called “handegg.”

Not that anyone cares, but I think that an American football measures 12 inches long.
