Lead wasn’t just in the paint. It was in the gasoline – and hence in the air. There was a strong correlation between lead in gasoline, and violence 15 or 20 years later – especially in urban areas, which, unsurprisingly, had a lot more cars in a much smaller area. It started phasing out in the 70s – and violent crime has been on a steady decline since the early 90s.

I really don’t get this. Maybe because I remember eating lead paint and caulk as a kid. We were poor.
