Curiously enough, that might be the way rock hounds_ look at ore bearing land. Years past, a friend looked at beautiful natural areas and his only comment was: I can build x-number of houses on that, once it is cleared. When I asked if he ever looked at land and saw the beauty in it, he looked at me as if I were speaking an alien language.
There are strip mines in MT that you would call beautiful, if you knew they had been strip mines. Biologists were brought in to survey every bush, tree & animal prior to mining. Afterwards the land was replanted and rehabilitated to match exactly what had been. It is an expensive way of doing it – but when done correctly it is unnoticeably gorgeous.
At least now, most mining projects have a plan as to the final appearance. Or, we could ban all such projects and return to the stone age and the vast majority of the anti-mining protesters wouldn’t survive.

A mine in a (comic) strip = a strip mine

Yeah. Try and dig a strip mine over a volcano. You might be in for a surprise.

No no no. Peter wants his own comic, set in that area. “This would make a truly beautiful strip. Mine.”

He’s definitely a Republican.

I want to see Peter strip mine into the side of a smoking volcano.

When you have to invoke the environment to get a punch line, you are a pioneer in mediocrity.
