When I was a child, we had a cat that had had it’s front claws removed (yes, I’m familiar with this practice and it’s status in the pet world. Hold off on the negative comments.)
We also had a Blue Jay that excelled at teasing the neighborhood cats into tall thin trees. It would tease our cat high into the tree, where our cat would would cling helplessly swaying back and forth, crying at the top of its lungs for help. With no front claws, I think that the cat had no idea how to climb back down.
We’re talking 50+ years ago, and I can’t remember how we got the cat back down. Still remember the Blue Jay at the very top of the tree twittering at the cat.
