I’ve seen people snowboarding on sand and when I was a kid we used to use a waxed surfboard to ride down the dunes at White Sands (White Sands National Park which isn’t far from where I grew up) it was a blast!
When I was working for a few years driving a forklift at a shipper, and in the winter when we got FREEZING RAIN overnight – and forklifts don’t really have very much tread on the tires for traction – we used a couple of shovels of sand on the ground to to get moving.
Sand is much better traction than snowboarding on snow and ice!
It does seem that it should be possible to slide on a sand dune (although it’s now forbidden to mess with sand dunes in a lot of places). The primary question should be: do you want snow or sand up your loincloth?

Maybe not for the participants, but for the spectators they certainly are.

I seem to remember a ski jump in Northern Illinois where people could practice in the summer. Can’t remember the details.

The jumping is OK; it’s the landings that are hard to stick.
