JonD: Yes, I read that too. But it comes from the website of the AKC which seems to have decided that only the “Parson” breed is genuine and the “Jack” breed doesn’t meet their standards. (Note there is no reference to the Jack Russell parent club.) It’s like descendants of the Mayflower looking down their noses at anyone who came later.
While the AKC’s prestige and influence is huge, apparently a lot of “Jack” breeders and fans don’t agree. I predict that eventually there will be enough documentation of “Jack” bloodlines and the AKC will cave and recognize the “Jack” as a breed alongside the “Parson”.
(Not that I really care. I don’t like yappy dogs anyway. The only dogs I like are those that most resemble the wolf ancestors, any dog that works for a living, and dachsies because they’re so cute and forgive us for making them dwarfs.)
