Hmmmm, I wonder which children’s book that is? Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Tom Kitten perhaps? (grinning cheekily through my stuffy nose and watery eyes—will this cold ever leave me?) ♥
Happy Bluesday, everyone! Lovely strip today, as the Woman reads to her children with the kitten snuggled nearby. I’m just waiting for her to feel well enough to start doing kitten things.
the kitten looks like she’s waiting for her masseur to start her massage. she must need it after being out in the void for who knows how long. and another fave Elvis moment coming up in a couple of days! I’m all tingly with anticipation!
Just checking in-today I start my very first chemo treatment, purported to last 5-7 hours. I am as prepared as possible-chemo port installed last Tuesday, still a bit tender but manageable. Have lidocaine to smear on it and hear that an ice pack is helpful.
Anyway, in my cyborg status I ask for any available purrs, good wishes and head bumps.
With the kitten in good health there are smiles all around this morning. Puck is about to explode with joy and happiness. Elvis is doing his best nonchalant pose he can muster but he too knows to feeling of absolute joy.
The Woman is reading a story about kittens to all the kittens. Awwwwwsum…blessed are the readers – & blessed are the read-to, for they shall become readers!
My mom loves reading to kids. One morning a week, she reads to the 3yo class at the local preschool. All the littles love “Granny Franny”!
I love this strip – it brings back so many good memories of becoming a reader; it always starts with being read to. I miss those quiet moments of calm in the otherwise hectic world, curled up with friends new and old. Now, I have to read to myself … not bad, but it makes me miss my Mom when she and I were both so much younger.
Someone (I have narrowed the list of suspects to two, with one being more suspect than the other) has learned how to open drawers. The culprit has managed to pull the lowest of my kitchen drawers out an inch or two (not enough to really get into them, but enough to notice). What was more troubling, however, is that I have a plastic drawer file (for holding screws and other small items) and this kitty started getting into them and pulling out pieces of string that I had in those drawers. I ended up having to move the drawer file into my storage room.
When I was picking up the string that the kitties were playing with, I put them in a desk drawer that they have not been able to open. In that drawer, I found a picture of a cat I had back when I was a teenager.
Elvis looks really tired in his panel, but you really have to look closely to tell. I’d hate to have to see it in a newspaper that prints it any smaller than the website does.

Oh dear, I’m afraid I’m lost. Just what are the pictures that the Woman is displaying? Or do those pictures have no particular meaning?

Do you think Puck will want Buzzy Mouse back when the kitty recovers?

Elvis needs that coffee. He’s been up all night.

I take it Lupin is still at the window, trying to extract an interview from The Man, who is still busily beating back the void.

The Toddler and the Baby seem to be paying more attention to the kitten than the story.

I think it’s Clucky Chicken, Elvis’s favorite toy, not Buzzy Mouse.

Kitten on the table, safely out of reach of the other children, but within reach of Dad Cat. Elvis just warms my heart.

She looks so cute, propped up on her front paws, listening to the story.

She looks just like my Beatrix, except my girl has blue eyes, and isn’t polydactyl.

We’ve now established that the kitten is a girl. Note how she’s displaying all of her paws.

as a shelter volunteer, I have to say the words; alert, awake and resting quietly rarely go together when describing a kitten.

Oh how I love Elvis. He is so happy to have been on guard and have a happy outcome. To his credit, when he is on guard the ending is happy.
