Awww. You’ve got that right, Burt. Nothing cuter than a kitten who has plum tuckered out. Those little baby fangs are too cute! Looks as if she’s having a sweet dream.
So precious! That’s exactly what kittens do – zoom to flop in no time flat! (Works the other way around, too…) And look at those good dads she’s acquired, ready to do all those dad things like not waking the baby, cooing over her, and taking embarrassing but adorable pictures to be dragged out at all family events from this point forward!
You might want to be careful bringing up the subject of baby books, Elvis. One of your fellow reporters might come up with a related story on a certain someone’s pirate ballerina baby pictures.
Remembering that we have orbsters who are bravely trying to smile in the midst of physical and/or mental pain.
Dear ones, you are still clustered in the heart of the Mega Core, right beside Georgia’s, where love is radiating strongest. You’re staying there until — and ONLY until, you’re ready to roam in the Boop Zone.
The Boop Zone is the area where orbsters meet, greet, share & concentrate boopage for distribution, and provide the structure of the Mega Orb.
On the subject of kittens, I have been trying to trap a pregnant mama for the past 3 weeks. She is smart and will not go near the trap not matter what tempting food I put in it. HELP, any suggestions?
Happy Funday, everyone! As I type this, Yum Yum is meatloafing behind me, grumbling moodily at the outside, which is still snow-covered. She’s also waiting impatiently for Spring, and for it to be warm enough for me to leave the door open so she can wander in and out.
There is definitely a cuteness overload in the strip today. Cute little kitten fangs and little tongue sticking out, with a twitchy paw to balance everything out.
Everyone, I’m sorry to inject a sad note into the conversation, but on this cold Monday morning, please spare a thought for one of our family cats, Carla, who will not make it through the day.
Carla is a beautiful little dilute calico (calico patches over white) who has been with us almost all her life. She came to us as part of a kitten fostering program, as a “teenage” mother (only a year old) with five kittens, too many to look after alone, and so she was named Carlotta Perdita after two animal mothers in literature: tough and beautiful queen Carlotta in Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s “The Great Escape”/“The Healing of Texas Jake”/“Carlotta’s Kittens” and lost young liver-spotted Dalmatian mother Perdita in Dodie Smith’s "The One Hundred and One Dalmatians. The kittens went to good homes; Carla stayed with us until her milk subsided, and then she stayed forever.
She has been with us for nineteen years, going on twenty. She has been the sweetest cat, who loves having her ears scratched and will kick/thump at the barest touch to them. Having been a mother cat once, she acquired and never lost the habit of licking her humans as if they were kittens to be groomed. She lost her hearing in her later years but never let it stop her from “shouting” for attention. She has been a dear friend to my mom, whom she stayed with as my brother and I went to our respective colleges and moved out, and a constant companion to our other foster fail of eighteen years now, grey tabby Leah.
Unfortunately Carla has been having kidney and bladder problems. This morning she passed a lot of blood and is no longer purring. My mom has done, and has authorized the vet to do, absolutely everything short of exploratory surgery – absolutely not recommended for such a supersenior cat. We believe nothing more can be done and that she is in pain, and so the dreaded final vet appointment has been made.
Kittens also go from nap to pounce in a New York second. I learned that the hard way. Many years ago, when the now late Sarah was a kitten, I was under the covers and she was napping at the foot of the bed. I went to adjust my “equipment” and, by the time I had down that, she was in mid pounce. I think that you know how this ended. Yes, tears were involved.
Is anybody else experiencing a problem with using the delete key? If I hit delete to correct an error at the exact point an ad is changing, I lose the whole post, and the whole page as I get sent back to the previous page. I’m also tired of losing the “cursor” when an ad changes and having to click back into the page to be able to continue typing. It’s getting beyond annoying!
For those who have been keeping tabs on Jasper. He’s ALL BETTER! Finally, no more leash 24/7. Jasper is now as close 100% as he will ever be. He is running and jumping and chasing and being chased by other dogs again. I will have to give him glucosamine for the rest of his life because he will have arthritis in that leg, but the pills will help. Jasper doesn’t care about the pills they are beef flavored so he happily eats them. I’m just happy he can run and play again.
Very sorry to hear that. We have had so many cats over the last 42+ years that I can’t list them all without writing them all down again, but Carla’s passing is similar to at least 3 of ours, Smokey, Missy and Kit. Most made it into the senior cat years, but tow died young, and we have never figured why.
The most recent was BlueBell. She wasted away despite our major efforts medication and hand feeding her for the last 5 months. She died overnight last spring, which was a shock as she seemed fine the night before.
3 kitties running the place now, Honey (inherited from college housing in 2005), Diva (the counter cat at the music store who came home with us in 2006) and Snickerdoodle (a deaf Tordie we brought home from the shelter last March). A house is not complete without a cat or 3…
Dealing with cuteness overload, when we lived at Lake Satsuma (an apt complex which floods) years ago I did my writing and hobby work in the living room so I could watch my child. I heard something weird at the front door and when I opened it I found a small orange kitten wandering the porch going ‘meow-MEOW, meow-MEOW’. I told it something like ‘Your mom’s not here, sweetie’. And durn if it didn’t stop the circling, looked up and meow-MEOW at me a few times and walk off towards the bushes, apparently to find momma. I have never heard another kitten or cat do that double meow. I still wish I had scooped it up and brought it in, but I was coping with a two-year old and I didn’t want him to be ‘Georgie’ to the kitten. That’s a Bugs Bunny cartoon if you can’t place it.
Last night, as I lay in bed, Tika was curled up just behind me (I lay on my side and had my back to her). Even though there were inches between us and we were not touching, I could feel her purring pulsing against my back.

“60 MPH to nap in 3 seconds,” LOL! Anyone else remember this? I loved it when I wasn’t much bigger than Beatrix myself.
“A Kitten”
He’s nothing much but fur
And two round eyes of blue,
He has a giant purr
And a midget mew.
He darts and pats the air,
He starts and cocks his ear,
When there is nothing there
For him to see and hear.
He runs around in rings,
But why we cannot tell;
With sideways leaps he springs
At things invisible.
Then halfway through a leap
His startled eyeballs close,
And he drops off to sleep
With one paw on his nose.
