We put Mom in a care facility last Sunday. It was far past the time to act, everyone agreed, but Dad was the hardest to convince. They have been married 64 years. Mom really does not know anyone or anything anymore, the dementia is complete. Even with home healthcare, and living with us, the strain on my Father was too much to keep her home. Dad is fighting Multiple Myeloma and kidney disease.
Fortunately, Dad planned ahead and he has the money to put her in a home. After spending a month touring facilities (some would shock you at their condition) and seeing the cost I worry about what Marie and I would do in the same circumstance. I am working again, thank goodness, but we don’t have nearly the wherewithal that Dad had accumulated.
Sorry to be depressing, but a lot has been on my mind this week.
Promise the next post will be funny and irreverent.
