Ok, y’all, who smashed the vase? It wasn’t Lupin (he wouldn’t lie). It wasn’t Goldie (she doesn’t know). It wasn’t Elvis (he accused Lupin). I don’t think it was Puck; he was just reporting on it. The July Bug has left the building (and the month). The Woman would know if her children were climbing on the table. The Man would have swept it up if he’d done it by accident. The Robber Mice have no motive and not much means. I really don’t know!!

I love the noir retro references. Goldie looks like she is going to be a female version of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer or Jean Luc Picard’s favorite: Dixon Hill! Go get the culprit young lady!

I love Goldie’s little magnifying glass. She needs a rickety, noisy fan for her office and a loyal secretary.

She forgot to give herself only 24 hours to solve it, a senior insurance investigator telling her to stay off the case and a “McGuffin” hidden somewhere in the shards of the vase. :)

I don’t think Sam Spade or Phillip Marlowe (Chandler’s PIs) ever said that “walks into my X” line… It’s Rick Blaine’s line from Casa Blanca. All three characters played by Bogart. (Chandler wrote the unforgettable PI characters and Bogart became the “physical representation” of them – even though I think Chandler’s characters were blonde and tall :) ) I’m glad Goldie is stepping into those unforgettable image’s shoes…

I like the old fantasy detective thing, it reminds me of calvin and hobbes.

Goldie is a real sweetheart.

The moment she stepped into my office, I knew she was trouble, but I’ve always been a sucker for a pretty face and I figued I owed her one, so I decided to take the case.

So Goldie sees life as an old school detective movie?

Oh wow! It’s Rick Blaine meets Sam Spade with maybe a bit of Torchy Blane thrown in too ( She was a reporter not a true PI, but she solved mysteries and fits the time and the atmosphere) Oh how I am loving this!

And it ends with a rebuilt owl vase, and someone asks Goldie what it is, and she answers “The stuff dreams are made of”.

oh oh oh oh And at the end, will Lupin and Goldie have the start of a beautiful friendship????

One of the cats at the colony also chirps. And his name is Chip. So I call him Chirpy Chip! And now that he’s letting us give him love, he’s truly a love bug! Plus, he’s long hair and absolutely gorgeous.
