I have to admit, the dynamic of two characters who can’t stand each other because they’re so much alike – mirror images to some degree or another – is one of my favorites…if only because occasionally you can get them lined up and going at a problem together, and then it’s hilarious! And terrifying.
*Note to Doctor Who fans – this is exactly why any episode with the Doctor and the Master sniping at each other instantly becomes one of my favorite. It’s just too much fun.
Not related to today’s comic, but related to Elvis Puffs Out. My niece found the BCN books through a free preview on Amazon and fell in love; she got the first three books for her birthday. Elvis Puffs Out had to wait for Christmas, and was greeted with a simply THRILLED “Oh, wow, there’s another one?!” Reading commenced and she was finished by the time dinner was ready. She was also impressed when she heard that the cats are real, and I’m pointing my brother to the website so she can see the Meet The Reporters section. Niece’s reaction also confirmed that she’ll be getting the wall calendar, too.
I hope this week shows some sort of cure! I have two very jealous cats who are currently beating each other up for prime spots near their human. As the human… all I can do is watch! If I show the slightest bit of favoritism… it only gets more intense!!!!!
My Siamese sisters, Lucy and Motley, wait patiently every morning for me to sit up with my legs off the side of the bed. They both want skritches – different skritches, mind you – and sometimes they are pretty good at taking turns. But sometimes Lucy is a hog, and Motley does not want to make it an issue.
My calendar arrived yesterday! It’s so wonderful! I love all the art on the calendar pages just as much as each month’s main image, I think October is my favorite.
OT: Bella… It was time. Late yesterday afternoon we took her in to help her cross over to the Rainbow Bridge. She was 15 and it was time to let go and have peace. We still have Kang, Nyssa, Cole, and Shadow with us. We didn’t do it at home and Kang seems to be most aware that she is missing but we are all holding up well.
We had the same two cats for 15 years. They worked out very precise boundaries and no cat’s land areas. The older one died last year. The younger one, now 16, still avoids her territory.
National Role Model Day: a.k.a. “National Hero Day.” Why did I change it? Because “hero” is very overused. Everyone wants to be a hero, and there is a fashion of labeling anyone who does something as a “hero.” I reserve that term for someone who does something more than what most people would do in the same situation. Those who are just doing their job—no matter how dangerous—are not necessarily heroes. For example: Flying high performance jet aircraft for the military is inherently dangerous. That does not make every military pilot a hero, and they’ll usually be the first to tell you so.
So what does today honor? Those whom we look up to and wish to emulate in some way. They may be real heroes at some point in their lives, but many of them never do anything more dangerous or challenging than driving a car in rush hour. But there is something in them that is so admirable in our eyes that we want to be like them, at least in that regard. They represent the ideals for which we strive. So take a moment to think of those who have helped shape your life in a positive way—and try to pass it on. Not everyone can be a hero, but everyone can be a good role model—changing the world one tiny bit at a time.
Tick Tock Day: Yes, the clock is running, and this year it’s running faster than usual. (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/earth-faster-rotation.html) At least there’s one thing good about this “year of straight-up poop.” I guess Mother Earth still cares about us.
National Pepper Pot Day: If this doesn’t get you moving, nothing will. According to legend, pepper-pot soup is “the soup that won the Revolutionary War.” That may be truer than most historians realize: While not scientifically documented, black pepper has been used in “folk medicine” to treat dysentery, the bane of all armies, and intestinal parasites, and may have other beneficial effects on the human body. “Now, wouldn’t you like to be a pepper, too?”
So, hypothetically, if someone wanted to pull a practical joke which might, hypothetically, result in the destruction of the entire house, they could dose Lupin and Goldie with a bunch of caffeine.

At least they’re just sitting and not going at it. What will Elvis and Puck do to bring these two trouble makers to their senses?

Elvis has been driven to shuffling his papers angrily! Oooh the intensity of a cat stare down!
Poor Pucky’s eyebrows are in danger of taking flight on their own.

Elvis and Puck will join in and escalate the stereo to Quadrophonic (with soundtrack by The Who, of course.)

Stealers Wheel: Stuck in the Middle
Well I don’t know what I have to report
When two cats have me all out of sorts
Dueling recorders, really just the last straw
I want to get away from it all
Goldie to the left of me, Lupin to the right,
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you!
…….
Yes, I’m stuck in the middle with you,
And I don’t know what to do with you two!
You’re annoying the heck out of me!
And I don’t think it’s how it should be,
Goldie to the left of me, Lupin to the right
And here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you!
Santana almost 4 years ago
You ask how much I annoy you, must I explain?
I need to bug you, oh, Lupin, like peep toads need rain
You ask how long I’ll sit here, I’ll tell you true
Until the twelfth of never, I’ll still be staring at you
Hold that pose, never let it go
Hold that pose, so we annoy in stereo
I’ll irk you till you get up to leave the room
I’ll bug you till Puck’s cat grass starts to bloom
I’ll vex you till it’s time to solve a crime
Until the twelfth of never and that’s a long, long time
(Webster Paul Francis / Livingston Jerry – The Twelfth of Never)
