Looks like Lupin, Goldie and Puck have on their hoodies. However Elvis appears to have on a long blue( to match his eyes?) nightgown. Tis the season for thanks for fuzzy blankets!

Ooh – that’s a new one. Haven’t seen that blanket before.

And it’s my “BCN Anniversary” ! The first strip I ever read was “It’s Fuzzy Blanket Season”

Instant overnight redecoration! Lupin can help with the…uh…more breakable ornaments from the previous festive season.

Of course, a fuzzy blanket atop a heated cat bed is feline nirvana…

We started getting the occasional Fuzzy Blanket Weather here a few weeks ago. It took Sparky about ten seconds from me settling in under the blanket to inform me it had taken me long enough, and she was planning to park on my lap until the next ice age whether I liked it or not.

Cold mornings are predicted for the next week. It’s time to drag out the heavy duty blankets.

My two kitties agree. They have joined me on the bed with our comforter (sort of like a fuzzy blanket)

I have fuzzy throws out all year because my body’s thermostat is broken. I get hot and cold flashes.

Fuzzy blankets never really get put away, but in another couple weeks, the down comforter, fill level 5, will get put on the bed. It’s 36 here this morning. I’m not ready for this. I don’t think Loaner Cat or Murphy are either.

The best part of fuzzy blanket season for me is the massage of all those little cat feet on top of the blanket!

    I like Fuzzy Blanket Season.

I found a small beef rump roast at the market and decided to make it for Sunday dinner. The rump roast is not a tender piece of meat, but if you slow roast it and cut it thin, it can be pretty good, and it provides leftovers for a week. I decided to make creamed spinach with bacon and nutmeg with the roast. I will provide my creamed spinach recipe later if anyone is interested.

Anyway, do you know the kind of cat that wouldn’t steal a whole piece of cooked bacon off your counter and run to his cat tree to enjoy it? Well, Hamilton is not that cat. The bacon was stalked and brought down unnoticed by the patient and cunning predator. The Pride Male then dragged his kill back to his layer to enjoy, all the while the semi-literate man-ape of the territory screamed at the retreating preditor to bring back his bacon. The man-ape was not successful.

It has been my eighth year with no trick-or-treaters. Now that Paul’s gone, I have no reason at all to buy baby chocolate bars (he used to go through two boxes between Hallowe’en and Christmas). I treated myself to a few full-sized chocolate bars.

    Give me the fleece, boys

    and soothe my soul

I wanna get warm from the arctic cold

    and drift away

Beginning to think a warm behind

can chase away my freezin’ blues

the world outside looks so unkind

    so I’m counting on you

    to carry me through

    Give me the fleece, boys

    and soothe my soul

I wanna stay warm from the arctic cold

    and drift away

So, after a meal at Red Lobster with the new in-laws and the happy couple, we went home and I sat down for maybe 15 minutes before I realized that it was time to get things ready for Halloween. We were all exhausted so the oldest boy slept, the oldest girl dressed as a fortune teller and broke out her new set of tarot cards and I sat on the porch in my kitty mask and handed out candy. During one of the trips into the house, Reboot escaped. He does not like all the scary people running around and mostly stayed near the house. He came in when it was all over. We brought Update out on the porch and she had a blast running back and forth on the brick wall. Then we put her back in the house after it got darker and that was Halloween. We did have around 75 trick-or-treaters this year. Not bad.

We live on the North end side of the block. The other two houses face the two streets to our East & West. And we have no sidewalks on our short end. So, after our neighbor, who had 3 kids & always hosted a Halloween Get-together, then everybody went trick or treating, en masse, moved away, we quit getting kids. So, we take in the Jack-o-Lanterns, pumpkins & our permanent doorstep denizens, turn off the front lights & have a quiet, if a bit forlorn evening. We aren’t helped by the guy down the wrong way on the street from us, putting up a massive Halloween Maze for everybody to shriek & giggle their way thru, to get to the candy. It’s amazing, very well done, walls are just 1 foot tall, and it’s all funny-scary, no gruesome, gory, icky stuff. This year, he added a blow-up, skeleton unicorn!!!

No trick or treaters for me, either. I went to see Dune in the afternoon and on the way home I passed the big event center which had a huge Halloween party for all. Great line up of children and parents outside and rapidly filling parking lot. So no trick or treaters on the streets near me. I think those big events are a great idea.

When it got all the way down to the low 70s (after 90s-100) one day last summer, our bedroom cat got under the covers like she does in the winter. I expect she will lobby Congress for year round Fuzzy Blanket Season to go with no DST time change.

    OT: HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, ONYX!!!

3 years ago on Halloween, sis’s next-door neighbor showed her a pic of a little black cat who needed a new home after the death of her human servant. Sis (who’d lost her previous boss Zoe a couple of months earlier & was just starting to think about adopting another cat) took one look & fell in love instantly.

Onyx arrived the next day depressed, diabetic, covered in fleas & flea dirt, & stiff with arthritis in her hindquarters. After a couple of weeks sis commented, "My “free-to-good-home” cat has cost me $500 in vet bills so far," but it was worth it – before long the fleas were gone, the diabetes was under control with diet, & Onyx was moving more easily thanks to glucosamine/chondroitin & had perked up & become the contented, snuggly lap cat we all know & love.

We don’t know how old Onyx is – we’re guessing around 15 – but she’s thoroughly enjoying her golden years! ♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
