Poor lil Iggy looks terrified clinging to the ship’s mast. His little tail can’t get more poofed out. But still, I love the proud look on Pucky’s face when talking about the “brave crew”.
For some reason, I am reminded of Monty Python’s short film The Crimson Permanent Assurance. Seeing an Edwardian office building turned into a pirate ship, sailing into a financial district agleam with skyscrapers, and sacking corporate headquarters — it was one of the best sketches MP ever did!
Speaking of Elvis…… My Gracie attempted a famous Elvis misadventure last night. I was getting supper ready and left some butter out on the table, my bad.Phone rang in the other room. I come back in, after less than a minute, and here’s Gracie….on the table in full eat all the butter mode. LOL To her credit though, she did not get covered in butter. I wanted to be mad at her but really….who’s to blame here? The butter loving cat? Or the idiot that left butter where she could and would get it.
This is a bit off topic, but it is related to BCN just an old strip I was sent back to enjoy by @Fennec! at the Disco. The strip on December 29, 2019 is about all the toys the kids got for Christmas and there is a panel with the Woman telling the girl she needed to misbehave just a little bit the next year so Santa didn’t bring so many toys. Knowing about the 2020 Christmas special this seems like a bit of foreshadowing. Though I am not sure if even Georgia knew at that time what she was going to do for Christmas 2020. In fact I think she might have still had hopes of doing the Our IX Lives Christmas special for newspapers. She had decided to push it back to 2020 if I remember correctly because of the Goldie storyline in 2019. I don’t think it was until closer to Christmas in 2020 that she announced that she had decided that doing the Our IX Lived Christmas special in the newspapers just wasn’t going to work.
Seems to be heavy seas across the carpet but the kitchen Lino might not be much better; those heavy duty molded plastic pirate ships don’t slide well when heavy laden.
In this episode of The Plundering Pirate Affair, Agent Goldie, the Cat from U.N.C.L.E., is hunkered down along the rail as the P.S. Ovaltine slowly plows through heavy weather making its way towards Kitchen Harbor. The struggle is a might one as Captain LaPerm at the helm guides the ship through stormy seas toward its goal. Madame Olga stands at the bow sword raised high cackling in her evilest voice, “Onward ye scurvy crew, onward. We must get those cookies before the harbor closes for dinner.”
Agent Goldie, feeling a bit queasy from the rocking of the ship, ponders just how she will stop this most desperate invasion of Kitchen Harbor. Over the horizon, the lights of Kitchen Harbor can barely be seen. She doesn’t have much time. Agent Goldie pulls out her communicator pencil, only to discover that in this raging storm it does not function. Realizing she is on her own she decides that she must enlist some help, some unwitting member of the crew to help save the treasure of Kitchen Harbor. It dawns on her that the Penguin is a fluff head that just might be tricked into giving the attacking pirates away to the authority, but how?
Will Agent Goldie be able to trick the fluff headed penguin into giving the raid away, and if so how?
Will Agent Goldie save most beloved treasure of Kitchen Harbor, thereby thwarting T.H.R.U.S.H.‘s attempt to ruin the children’s dinner?
Will Puck, through his bumbling reporting give Agent Goldie away to the Madame Olga and Captain LaPerm?
Tune in tomorrow for another exciting episode of The Plundering Pirate Affair.
Little Nemo (formerly known as little Mina) had his fix-it surgery yesterday. He has a vet appt in a couple of days (vaccines?), and will likely be on his way to the adoption site this weekend. Yay, Nemo!
Hello, everyone! I’ve got some anxious news… The recent restructuring of newspapers nationwide has hit ‘Breaking Cat News’ hard in 2024. As of this month, I’m down a third of my newspaper income. The BCN Patreon has gone from helping lend extra support to making the difference in keeping the comic afloat! Thanks to our Patreon, my tap in income is covered and I’m still in good shape to pay the bills! Without the Patreon and the support there, this newspaper restructuring would be forcing me to make some hard decisions. I’ve joked in the past that I “don’t want to go back to working at the bank,” but it would have been much more of a reality after this restructuring. If you support BCN on Patreon, THANK YOU!! You are keeping the lights on in the CN news studio, and I’m so grateful to you. If you don’t already and would consider supporting my Patreon, I would appreciate it so, so much and you can find it on their Patreon site. The link is on the BCN FB and Instagram today, if you have trouble finding it on Patreon.
If BCN is in your local newspaper, please take a moment to reach out to them and thank them! If you lost BCN in the restructuring, let your newspaper know you miss seeing the strip! And if you would like BCN in your newspaper, this is a great time to organize with some fellow local readers/friends to contact them and let them know!
You can read more about the recent newspaper restructuring of comics on The Daily Cartoonist’s website. They have been covering this issue since it first loomed last autumn. If you go to their site and search the word “Gannett,” numerous stories covering the changes to our nation’s newspaper comics this year will come up. Simply put, major newspapers have recently restructured their funny pages to run only a few pre-chosen comics, (similar to an ala carte menu) shutting out many of the new comics created in this century completely. (Continued in the next comment!…)
They used to allow you to make custom pledges on Patreon, but I can’t find the steps anymore. I’d love to up my monthly pledge if possible, but I can’t go any higher in the tiers. Anyone remember how to do that?

Who’s hanging over the Girl’s arm? Too small for Elvis and beside that, he’s too dignified to pirate.

Trevor-Hotep: Thanks for the visit, guys. Always great to see you.
Fresh Water Cat: See you soon at the lasagna banquet.
Iggy: Ready to set sail!
Salt Water Cat: Getting underway! I think I see a school of perfect perch to starboard!
Sometime Later
Fresh: Great day for fishing! And I see the Hippy Hippos along the shore. Good evening, Star Shine!
Star Shine Hippo: Peace and love to you!
Salty: We have some fruits and veggies for you from Trevor-Hotep.
Star Shine: Wonderful! He’s such a groovy guy!
Iggy: He said the grazing grass should be ready soon.
Star Shine: Outta sight! Grazing in the grass is a gas!
Iggy: It’s not my thing, but I can dig it.
