The precise reason why slang of any kind, but especially “cool” slang, is just a bad idea and a waste of time.

If only that was all it took for “new words” to go out of style/use.

Yeah, well you’re being leggort ! (just made it up. Though there are a limited combination of combining letters. Googled five nonsensical combinations until I got a solid “Did you mean…”)

Lame, passe, fuddy-duddy, quaint, uncool, OK boomer.

At least “cool” is still cool. (Prolly should’na said that.)

It can also mean you are trying too hard to be cool… Which is apparently part of the joke.

Ha! I will display my superlative knowledge on my grandkids today!

I turned 68 recently. Stopped trying to be cool about twenty years ago. I now fully embrace impending geezerhood.

I’m cheugy….and quite proud of it, actually.

Every generation has their ‘in’ words. And, they usually keep most of these words the rest of their lives. Trying to keep up with a younger crowd’s slang is practically impossible, the older you get. Whether it be 30, 40, 50, etc.

The difference between jargon and slang is between constructive usefulness and deliberate obfuscation. I admit technical terms can mutate into slang and vice versa.

I was going to ask how to pronounce “cheugy,” but thanks to today’s strip I don’t have to bother, since the expression’s already old and uncool.

Children need boundaries and limits. Adults need to respect each child’s right to privacy. Children like to have secrets about what dad bought mom as a gift.

Begin using it yourself at every opportunity.

Keep track of when you begin using it and wait to see how long before you begin hearing Other People using it.
