Tim, I hate to correct you, but technically we have “landed” a probe on Jupiter. The Galileo probe dropped a probe into Jupiter and studied it’s atmosphere, sending back data until it was crushed and cooked by Jupiter’s atmosphere.
And what have we learned so far? A. Absolutely nothing, B. It costs lots of money that could have been spent to improve conditions on earth, C. That private industry can do it better and cheaper than the government, D. That the old an falling apart Russian space station is costing billions to maintain and serves no practical purpose whatsoever, E. All of the above.

There was an atmospheric probe on Jupiter, not exactly a lander, but more than an orbiter.

I’ve been following space exploration since the Mercury Project when I was a kid.

Poor Winky. I hope that he at least got a nice dinner out of the deal. Maybe even a little Barry White playing in the background…

Mars is missing an exploration icon! Ingenuity isn’t either “orbit/close up study” or “lander”.
