Kids check under their beds for monsters. Monsters check under their own beds for ME.

Yep, that is something that a big sister would do.

Living in the suburbs of Colombo, Sri Lanka, I woke up to find there was a rat in my bedroom. Not a small one, either.

“Monster” can mean anything much larger than one would expect. A large mosquito tapes to around 0.4 inches – so a mosquito one inch long would be a monster. The largest spider is the Goliath birdeater (in terms of leg span and weight – there this one skinny dude with longer legs) with an eleven inch leg span. If I was visiting the area where he was found, and discovered a spider the size of a dinner plate under my bed I might thing, “What a monster!” but it would only show my ignorance of a perfectly normal-sized spider.

Big Sisters! Gotta love ’em.

Well at least he has his helmet on. Spider proof. Can’t say the same for facehuggers

Without digging them out, it seems to me the 1974 original Dungeons & Dragons Monsters & Treasure booklet and the 1977 Monster Manual include Large Spiders.

As Calvin said in one strip, (not an exact quote) Darkness helps one see his fears more clearly.
