I once heard a senior (back before I became one myself) claim they were the one who proposed the first major improvement to the wheel by making it triangular, thus eliminating one of the bumps from the square wheel.

“Ooga Magoog was a Neanderthal man,

    A very poorly educated soul.

He had a great big square thing made of solid stone,

And in the middle of it was a hole.

One day he had to go from his cave in Natchez

    To his uncle’s cave in Mobile;

I said, ’Round off those corners,

And buy a set of tires,

And Oogie, baby, that’s a wheel!’

And that was good advice, good advice:

Good advice costs nothing, and it’s worth the price.

Harvard offered me a Phi Beta Kappa key

    For good advice!"

Our youngest daughter must have asked me how old I was twice a week. (That’s how it felt, anyway.) One day I told her I was born in 1942, and she could figure it out.

A sharp gasp from the back seat. “Nineteen forty-two?

“Crikey”, thought I. "I’m old, but it’s not that bad.

She leaned over and whispered to her sister “What year did Columbus discover America?”

Why pay for acupuncture when you have a cactus to lean against.

I joke with the youngsters that when I was a kid, if we wanted privacy on the phone we used the one with the longest cord, so we could go down the hall away from the living room, where everyone else was watching the same show on the one TV we had in the house with about 7 or so channels to choose from.

The square wheel was later replaced by the triangular one; it eliminated one bump…

Suspecting here that Broomie is a good deal older than the mere 1500 years she claims….
