My in-laws had a dachshund that would beg at the table, becoming more and more annoying to the point of almost getting in your lap if you ignored her. One day I slipped her a sliver of jalapeño. She never bothered me again when I was eating.
Jalapenos are only at 5,000 on the Scoville Scale, the scale used to measure the spiciness of a pepper. The heat, at this point in the scale, starts to become noticeable, but not terribly irritating. Once Habanero peppers come into play, the scale is at well-over 100-thousand, and goes into the millions when man-made peppers, such as the Ghost Pepper, are added to the mix.
Of course, this scale is only applicable to us humans. According to my research, feeding a dog even the smallest amount of Jalapeno can cause a whole world of trouble, such as “gastric upset including vomiting and diarrhea, but ingesting more peppers may lead to ulcers,” according to fluentwoof(dot)com. The former symptoms are a result of mere nibbles, but anything more can cause serious damage. Needless to say, don’t feed Jalapenos to your dog!
However, considering all the things Buckles has eaten up to this point, the things he will eat in the next 22-years-worth of strips, and the amount of trouble he’ll end up in during the entirety of the comic’s duration, the gray puffball will be just fine. Buckles, while clumsy and vulnerable, is near to having the strength of your average Loony Toons character.
I would never to that to a dog. We had chickens as a kid and my grandmother tossed on the gravel driveway some jalapeño seeds she no longer wanted and the chickens would peck and eat the seeds, then shake their heads because the seeds were hot. Fortunately there weren’t many. I always felt sort of sorry for them.
I missed a piece of jalapeno on the floor while dicing up fresh ones and my cat got it. She had the zoomies for almost an hour. Finally able to get her to lap up some milk, which helped calm her mouth down.

I should be lucky that we never fed any of our dogs jalapenos.

Buckles needs a nice long walk with plenty of stops after a long drink of water. Ditto tomorrow.

Reminds me of an old video in which a ferret licks a jalapeno slice and then darts for a glass of water.

I once had a jalapeno pepper attack and 911 had to be called. I have never eaten them again.
