Growing up we had a cat that had kittens a couple of times a year. We would show the kittens themselves in a mirror and some of them would hiss and spit at the reflection. As kids we thought it was hilarious.
This touches on why I tend to find comic strip pets more annoying than real pets: They understand English perfectly, yet no matter what you tell them, they act ignorant.
We had a puppy that started barking and growling for no reason one night. It took us a while to realize he was barking at his reflection in the window of the storm door
I had a mirror propped on the floor and every time my kitten saw herself in it, she would check around behind the mirror to see if the other cat was there.
