No, might does NOT make right. It allows bullies to prey on the weak. Might is right when some stronger entity intervenes. AS for Calvin - he should make a very special snack, make a point of announcing it’s his favorite, displaying it in front of that creep. When he steals it away, Calvin can sit back and enjoy the magic…
No Calvin, it is not reasonable.
We live in a country with the rule of Law.
It separates us from other countries where the biggest bully rules. It is not wrong to stand up for your rights. And it is the only way to deal with a bully.
And where is the playground monitor (Teacher) any way !
Ambush is the best remedy. Convince the animal to go into a one way in, no way out and close the door. Did it several hundred times in the late 60s. Worked like a charm.
Biggest problem with sending work overseas for cheaper labor, eventually fewer people here can afford to buy your product or service.
A worker should always be paid a wage sufficient for him or her to buy or utilize the goods or services they produce. Fast food worker should be able to buy fast food meals. Aircraft worker should be able to buy tickets for air line travel. Hubcap fabricator should be able to buy a car. Medical worker should be able to afford a doctor visit or insurance.
The only person I fought the most with was my brother who really had a short fused temper, but let some bully try something with one of us and he had to contend with both. They learned not to mess with either of us if the other was around. Dad got us boxing gloves one Christmas and would just send us outside to settle our arguments. LOL Still best of friends.
I agree with some of the previous posters here, Calvin: taking back your own property from Moe is not stealing so … what does it matter how you do it?!?!? Just go do it!
Meanwhile, this reminds me of an old “Little House On The Prairie” episode I’ve seen (and more than once too): a big bully had all the students in that little one-room schoolhouse completely terrorized – including the teacher – until one day when those kids had finally had enough of the bullying and they all ganged up on him at once with everyone getting their licks in! When it was over, the bully apologized to the teacher and swore from there on out that he’d behave himself.
Maybe that’s what Calvin should do too: gather together all the other kids that Moe has bullied (and you just know there are others!) and beat the living hell out of him until he promises to change his bullying ways … or face these same consequences again! Sure they’ll probably get in trouble both at school and at home but it would be worth it to never be bullied by Moe ever again!!!!!
@macklawton: In any democratic society, there’s always going to be a large number of people who hate what the government is doing. But as long as the government is working to fulfull its mandate, there’s no point blaming it. The “bully” is the democratically expressed will of the people. As individuals, it’s not always going to be our personal will, and that’s just the way it is. If you leave it, you pretty much have to go to a desert island to be happier. It’s just like this or worse everywhere else.
Throwing Hobbes at the problem is a non-starter. Outside Calvin’s imagination, he’s just a stuffed tiger.
He’ll just have to dig deep and find the answer in himself. It’s a solvable problem. Solving it is almost a rite of passage for a kid. It usually only has to be done once.
They say a gun is a great equalizer. Good thing kids can’t buy them, although it would solve the growing problem of bullying in the schools. Adults, especially religious authorities can be real bullis too. From personal experience I’d say a gun was the only solution, but it’s a tough call. The world’s worst dictators usually died of old age.
Jukeofurl:
You gave me an idea, maybe you could get Mom to bake some cookies or brownies and tell Moe you’d trade him a couple for the truck?! Otherwise try to see what else of yours you don’t particularly care for or play with, that he’d be willing to trade to get your truck back? I know me thinking that Moe’s a reasonable human being might be a stretch but it’s worth a try!
That’s extorsion Dino-1! Pay him off for what is yours!?
No! We might have evolved with the law of the jungle but the new law of the fittest is the smartest and not always the brawniest. THINK of a way to outdo him Calvin. There are many ways to make his life miserable if you use your imagination, and you have LOTS of that. Poor little guy.
@GretchensMom, IIRC, in the original Little House series–probably Farmer’s Boy, there was a group of teen boys who used to come to school just to beat up the teacher, thereby ending school for everyone. The adults got wise enough to warn the next teacher they hired, who looked rather frail and bookish–except he had a bullwhip in his desk. When the leader of the gang announced the attack, the teacher pulled out his whip and proceeded to whip him (from a safe distance) out of the school–and then turned to the next one, who decided to flee with his cronies. No more problems at that school for a good many years.
