Hey Binary, completely agree, sounds like someone doesn’t know what a “cretin” is, so they had to look up “cretinizer,” good grief, most people would realize Calvin has his own language! Kids with imagination always make up new words of their own…
Using a Cretinizer on Moe would be like using druidic strength potion on Obelix (see the Belgian cartoon Asterix and Obelix). It wouldn’t work; both were immersed in the relative substances shortly after birth.
Not just kids but some adults make up words, of course. I’m hoping that somehow, my own portemanteau “screwballitude” goes viral and enters popular American slang.
I have to give Calvin his due here. Good one, Calvin – and for once, it’s nice to see you employ a bit of subtlety in your insults. Hobbes has taught you well.
Calvin should know that most people are already cretins. It would be more useful to invent a machine to smarten them up. He could call it the “intelligizer.”
I thought that was the key to the con men in “The Emperor’s New Clothes”–that nobody would admit they couldn’t see the cloth they wove–and pulled over everybody’s eyes!
I had an invisible weapon like Calvin when I lived in Anchorage and I chased away a thief at Carrs/Safeway with it. He really thought I had a gun and I was only using my hand.

LOL!! Great one! I think it would have been funnier if it was Susie instead of Ronald. That would have been classic.

@pouncingtiger Calvin would be dead by now if he’d have said Susie.
@Ronald Gotcha!!!
G’morning all.. :)

What is a cretinizer? leo.org doesn’t know…
Bittermelon of Truth over 13 years ago
@Tineli- What’s Leo, a German dictionary site? It’s a made-up word from Calvin and not real English. Just see panel 2.
Something tells me that “Cretinizer” got in the hands of the wrong people some time ago :)

I think Calvin used it on himself when he failed to prepare for show & tell the night before.
Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!

Calvin, like many, is always ready to “Tell.” The showing of facts, details, or results is always the challenge.

I’m glad for Calvin that Ronald isn’t Moe. Then again, it would have taken Moe a week to figure out he’d just been dissed.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had just a cretin identifier.
We could just aim it all the politicians …
TracerBullet2 over 13 years ago
I don’t need to use this to turn my brothers into cretins. They already are cretins.
ReliantOne over 13 years ago
@ Wiseguy411… We do have a cretin identifier. It’s called FOX news.

Quit waving that thing around! It’s too effective at extremely long range.

I want an invisible Civilizer. It makes people nice and intelligent instead. Oh wait, Prozac is supposed to to do that. One outta two aint bad.

Wiseguy411 - we do have a cretin identifier, it’s called a ballot paper! You just put a little cross next to the cretin of your choice.

If Calvin would only use his power of intellect for good and not for evil.

We don’t need a cretinizer. What we need is a BS sensor set to super sensitive. Would save a lot of wasted oxygen.
