Why does the copyright date say 1996?

My mom did that to me when I was 2, coincidentally at my grandparents’ house (her parents). Coughed for almost an hour. Never touched another one again.

But Calvin, don’t you realize you look cool now?

Remember cigarette machines? This one time at Church Camp in North Carolina(1971 I think), the cigarette machines sold premium brand cigarettes from 25 cents.

I feel bad for those who suffer Emphysema.

What lesson? I hope she has another strategy about gun.

My mother told me that, when I was VERY little, I once ATE a cigarette. I think she missed work for a day having to care for me.

Am I the only one who remembers this PSA?

Considering how long those smokes might have lain on a shelf, the staleness alone would sicken even an experienced smoker. And why are readers so interested in copyright dates? All of these are repeats. What’s it matter when they appeared before? They are just a very enjoyable alternative to what passes for news and life in the 21st.

If you remember the old Winston jingle (Winston Tastes Good Like a Cigarette Should)., I had changed the words as a 7 year old to: “Winston tastes bad like the one I just had. No filter, no taste, just a (clap cap) 30 cent waste!” The price tells you about what year this was. LOL

Yup. An uncle let me try one of his when I was about Calvin’s age. Haven’t touched one since, and I’m in my 70’s.

This strip remin me of a Donald Duck cartoon called “Donald’s Happy Birthday.”In it, the nephews decide to buy ‘Unca Donald’ cigars for his birthday (This was the 1950’s, when people didn’t know better). Donald, somehow forgetting it’s his birthday, sees the nephews buying cigarettes and assumes it’s for themselves. Before realizing it’s a birthday present, Doald manages to have the nephews smoke the whole box, sending the, out cold on the floor. Ironically, Walt Disney smoked heavily, but he painted it out as a bad habit.

That is one cool mom. Making you learn your lesson the hard way. I think my mom would have fainted on the spot if I asked her something like that at that age. Not that it mattered though. I was a heavy victim of second hand smoking. And Chad Cheetah, you’ve gotten me curious with that cartoon. Walt Disney did smoked a lot, and even though he knew it was a bad habit, he couldn’t stop. If only he could have had enough will power.

I don’t that is such a hot idea. Once you start down a road, it is easier to stay on it.

I used to be a chain smoker…but the chains wouldn’t stay lit so I switched to tobacco! I quit smoking in fall of 1978!

Warning! Started at 12 and now have COPD. I’m in my mid 50’s and having to take oxygen every where I go is not living a quality live.

In the check out line at ACE Hardware, a little old lady voice behind me said to the guy behind her, “See those candy cigarettes? I didn’t think they could sell those anymore. Yack, yack, blah, blah.” The guy walked out. Anyway, I remember both the hard sugar kind and gum kind. Yes, my mouth is full of mercury fillings, but I’m German and that’s our rule.

I used to have a two-pack-a-day habit and I never heard an “eeeeeeeep” when I took a drap off from those sweet, SWEET cigarettes.

Nah, don’t miss them at all…

I will never be taking up that disgusting habit.

My parents tried this on me when I was about twelve. After three cigarettes and a cigar they gave up!

It’s a good thing Grandpa didn’t smoke menthols…

The last time I smoked was in 1953 when I was 5 and took a puff on mom’s cigarette.

I first smoked when I was 6 in my oldest sister’s closet a half-smoked butt..no bad effects, but in lighting it up, it’s a wonder I didn’t catch the clear plastic drycleaned clothing covers on fire..

My Dad gave me a sip of whiskey when I was 4 and I can’t stand even the smell of it today.

This strip mirrors my only childhood experience with cigarettes, except that we stole a pack from my mom instead of her giving it to us. Same result (for me, anyway).

That was me at 11…and that was that!
