Time to go crawling to mom and dad for help in fixing the problem. Even my inept dad would have tried to make it all right for me in the same circumstances.
Such a dramatic, truthful response. This is JUST how so many young or immature people react when things are broken, especially when someone is egging them on or being smug about it. The “You WILLED me to break it!” thing is especially classic.
Calvin punching Hobbes repeatedly is GREAT bit of drawing. In that tiny space, Watterson conveys a flurry of blows, while Hobbes just looks annoyed & mortified rather than pained, so it doesn’t look so violent.
Blaming someone else for one’s failures is not acceptable, but understandable behavior for a 6-year-old. However it is acceptable in adults if the adult is powerful enough. Nobody ever wants to tell the emperor he has no clothes.
How deep the disappointment after the heights of anticipation. I am sure a lesson was learned here, but I am not sure which one will be the one that motivates him to be a better person.
You know…I built model planes and stuff when I was six, and I never broke parts like this, Calvin is just a clumsy kid…or maybe I had unusually high dexterity.

Awww. Now it’s back to eating boxes of sugar bomb cereal and weeks of waiting in order to get another “some assembly required” beanie.

Yup, broken beanie means no pretending to be some flying, raging monster. Poor Calvin.

Yes, Calvin SHOULD jump into the septic tank.
His feet are already soaking wet from standing in the waters of De Nile.

Why blame the poor feral Hobbes for this mess. Calvin can reassemble the beanie in a jiffy with Hobbes’s help.
