Such a dramatic, truthful response. This is JUST how so many young or immature people react when things are broken, especially when someone is egging them on or being smug about it. The “You WILLED me to break it!” thing is especially classic.

Calvin punching Hobbes repeatedly is GREAT bit of drawing. In that tiny space, Watterson conveys a flurry of blows, while Hobbes just looks annoyed & mortified rather than pained, so it doesn’t look so violent.

Hmm, slight external locus of control young Calvin! Lucky Hobbes doesn’t fire up in response…

If this doesn’t propel Calvin to action, what will?!

Blaming someone else for one’s failures is not acceptable, but understandable behavior for a 6-year-old. However it is acceptable in adults if the adult is powerful enough. Nobody ever wants to tell the emperor he has no clothes.

How deep the disappointment after the heights of anticipation. I am sure a lesson was learned here, but I am not sure which one will be the one that motivates him to be a better person.
