The answer to that question they leave out of most pirate stories.

That is profound Hobbes – People who never get smooched are the fallen in the pecking order and end up as pirates or some such other pyrotechnic persuasion. Lotsa boom-bang-bust…. but no cuddles.

Smooching—always on his fuzzy mind; he’s a true tiger in that area of endeavor. Oh, Suzie….!

“Aye, but we’re loved by our mommies and dads” or so goes an old Disney pirate ditty, so perhaps yer mum matey? ;D

There were at least two female pirates in documented history.

People made fun of Italy and France because they did poorly in the last couple of wars. What’s wrong with people who would rather make love, not war?

Has anyone actually seen one of those homemade wooden toy swords? I’ve see plastic versions that mimic them, or at least I think I have. But I’ve never seen anyone take some scrap wood and make their own.

Any more of that bellyaching and Hobbes walks the plank.

No one seems to have noticed that today’s strip contrasts with yesterday’s concerning Calvin’s attitude to girls and is more representative of his views as a whole.

When the story arc about the founding of GROSS was last reprinted about two years ago, I pointed out that just Get Rid Of Girls would have been appropriate as it would have spelled GROG which was a diluted form of rum popular with pirates and would fit in with the Skull And Crossbones flag sometimes flown by the GROSS club.

Hobbs really does have a good point.

That’s a valid question there, Hobbes.

There were a few famous lady pirates. Anne Bonny (?) comes to mind.

Instead of asking “We don’t like girls?”, Hobbes should have stood up for himself and reminded Calvin “I like girls.”

Sadly, Hobbes has much to learn about the shipboard romantic lives of pirates.
