Calvin is never that bored.

I’d fear these enormous animals!

In Japan kids are taught that cleaning is a privilege, not a punishment. You’re making the house/school/club room a pleasant place for everyone including yourself.

Sigh! It is all sticks and no carrots, isn’t it Calvin!?!

And bring whatever help you need….

And this strip shows that Calvin’s parents don’t understand him at all—nor do they want to!!

I gotta wonder—was he an “oops” baby??

Calvin is going to need a BIG plastic biggie to clean up after his new friends.

So what is mom looking at? Newspaper, fashion magazine, People, grocery ads?

I’m surprised Tyrannosaurus-calvin would get that close to the neck of, whatever that is, and let it live.

Oh gawd, that was me at six…dinosaurs, the Spaceman Spiff bit, being a superhero, all of it…including the same inattentiveness in school. Calvin is definitely ADHD.

I admit riding on the back of a giant herbivorous dinosaur would be a kick, but I wouldn’t want to have to clean up the poop in the back yard.

Know any six-year-olds who still play with a stick horse (whether or not they’re imagining it’s a dinosaur)?

In the newer Sunday format, it’s always fun when Calvin’s imagination takes up a good bulk of the strip, with reality placed in a small panel on the bottom right.

Not real creative, Mom.

As you work through the layers of junk in your room, pretend you are a world-famous archeologist like … ummm … Indiana – no …. Lara – no … I remember – the Earl of Elgin! Probably not the best example. :)

Wait till the wife tells you that you have no life..

I’ve said it before, Mr Watterson really loves to draw. Cranking out sketchy cartoons day after day must be a penance of some kind, it must be a rush to be able to spread his wings from time to time.

The Dinosaur Encyclopedia is a great gift for kids interested in the subject

It’s strips like this one that I can almost hear Watterson saying to the publishers “You want a standard 3-row Sunday strip? Well, deal with this!”

With the imagination Calvin has, I don’t see how he ever gets bored.

With me it was, “you’re bored? Here’s a shovel. Go dig some irrigation checks”.

Every 6 year old’s idea of fun.
