Always suspected Hobbes of being an elitist. He probably insists on wild salmon and not the farmed kind.
It’s probably more collectible than whatever Calvin was making.
Gimme a number, Hobbes!
You can tell Bill was still bitter about his licensing fight with his editors when he drew this.
Now Calvin should make a clay figure of himself to get even.
Clay tiger
I love to marvel at the deliberately incomprehensible. So i spend hours browsing NYT’s Art section. I admit it is a guilty pleasure.
Hobbes, take it to The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum at Alfred University where everyone can appreciate it.
Doing what you want and what you like isn’t avant-garde.
We snobby elitists kind of think it’s cool.
It’s a beautiful gift from Hobbes to you, Calvin!!
Considering the garbage that has passed for “art” the last 100 years or so (see “Doonesbury” when it features Mike’s ex), Calvin DOES have a point.
Still, I wish he wouldn’t act like such a jerk about it!!
Is that a genuine Hobbes? $$$$!
Definition of a split second: the time between Calvin’s first question and the explosion
Thank you, Hobbes!
Calvin’s snowmen creations are QUITE creative…
I just came here to say, “smock.”
Betcha Calvin was making another ashtray.
Bill Watterson is such a good artist, he can make a tiny picture of a tiger look convincing!
little statues of animals are VERY popular decorative elements
i will make it on a hood and be called Jaguar
It’s like having Thomas Kincaid and Jackson Pollock in the same kindergarten class.
Lowest common denominator? Is this about art or politics?
Answer: slap it on Twitter and some furry will buy it lol
“Why do something if you can’t get rich off of it?” And that’s why we have so many finance wizards in America.
Those are the best kind.
Label it as a snobbish, elitist aesthetic and you’ll sell it for a million dollars… ☺
Both pop art and fine art have their value, and never the twain shall meet. I can’t even imagine what the Sistine Chapel would look like if it had been done by Andy Warhol.
For a kid who hates school, Calvin has q.quite the vocabulary
Not to worry. Once Calvin sees how hard it is to make ‘art’ he’ll just wind up with a clay version of the Pet Rock.
It’s a myth that great artists don’t care about being paid for their work. An artist with such an attitude is going to be very poor.
I once made a tiny cat figure for my girlfriend. It wasn’t a great sculpture but it was pure cat.
Calvin is so radically ‘woke’ these days. Hobbes is the little voice of reason. Maybe Calvin will grow out of it…
2022 and this is still relevant.
In fact, most of the entire strip’s run is relevant in this day and age.
It’s artistic, that’s what. But not as impressive as THIS… https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1987/02/05
It looks quite good.
I’d buy an official NFT
Kid has a fantastic vocabulary.
His pawwriting may leave something to be desired, but he sure can sculpt. Of course, without stripes, it could easily be mistaken for another big cat.
I would think that a sculpture made by a stuffed tiger would be a rare collector’s item.
Always love the literary side of Bill. The poignant points made by Calvin are interesting.
Calvin’s vocabulary is growing with every strip!!
I suspect that Calvin’s words in the last panel were what people said to Watterson when HE refused to license merchandise.
Hobbes can also be a good artist. Tiger statues are majestic.
