History. The aspect of one person’s opinion of what happened with a dash of political correctness. Think about something YOU lived through and how was it written later in the books?
In high school we had to read Shakespeare. At the time I thought it was a waste of time and preferred typing class. Now, many years later I still think Shakespeare was a waste of time, but typing has proved immensely useful to me.
I actually read that quote, “If you’re overwhelmed by the size of a problem…” (by Chuck Close), just minutes before reading this comic strip. Coincidence?
reminds me of the scene in My Favorite Year, when Benjy is teaching his girlfriend to use chop sticks…he carefully demonstrates how to balance them together, and then uses them to pick up a fork, throwing away the chopsticks while stating “Dim sum are hard enough to eat, don’t make yourself crazy”

Calvin should ask, ‘Does Mrs Wormwood care?’

I took the brutal approach of reading the entire text about ten times. I found history a fascinating read in grade school.

When one gets into the motivations as to why some decisions were made and how they led to present situations history becomes a bit more interesting.

If he cares, then he’ll get the crib notes. Why read it when somebody else already did?

For example, when reading comics break the job down to panels, then just read the final panel, it contains the punch line.

But you have to start before you can finish, Calvin.

The teacher doesn´t really care. It is Calvin´s future.

Considering some of the revisionist history now being forced on children in schools, not a bad idea at all, Calvin.

Much like the adage of “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” Which is true, but it would take a 55 gallon drum of A1 sauce…

That history book needed some dinosaurs to spice it up.
‘’At Antietam, Union forces attacked on the backs of Velociraptors. Breaking thru the Confederate lines.’’ Now that’s History.

He’s six. He’s a good reader, but first graders aren’t assigned to read chapters in history books—except apparently by Miss Wormwood :D
