Even if Cathy hadn’t dumped him six years ago, it still wouldn’t have worked out between them and it has nothing to do with him being 10 years younger than her. It all has to do with compatibility and common interests. Alex is into everything outdoors and fitness-related — diving, biking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, snowboarding, windsurfing, hiking, volleyball, etc. — and she just isn’t. There’s no way in the world she could have kept up with him physically and he wouldn’t have wanted to spend his days/nights/weekends sacked out on the couch doing nothing but mindlessly watching t.v. and binge-eating whatever unhealthy snacks were in the house. The only alternative would have been for them to each do their own thing separately, but how happy would that have made either one of them? Everyone needs a hobby to help them relax and unwind after a stressful day/week, but how were they going to maintain any kind of a long-term relationship if they were always doing everything apart because there was absolutely nothing they enjoyed doing together? ¯\(ツ)/¯
No. The situation is as it should be. Alex moved on and found love with someone a lot more suitable to the way he enjoys living his life; now it’s time for Cathy to do the same.
