I think she’s gonna need more than once around the block, Mr. Potato Head, I mean Irving. Maybe a stop at a bar to get a shot of tequila? I will be shocked if she gets through this without something embarrassing.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Wednesday! Have a great day, all!
In olden days. you offered congratulations to the groom. It was considered impolitic to offer congratulations to a bride. “The reason for saying congratulations to the groom is to tell him “good job” for landing a wonderful woman who agreed to marry him. The bride, in comparison, is wished a happy marriage. Saying congratulations to the bride (traditionally) implies that she “finally” found someone or it was difficult for her to obtain a husband.” You were only supposed to offer her your best wishes. However, the times have changed, and congratulations for the bride are now the practice of the day.
Well, Irving is getting a good taste of what is to come if he stays with Cathy. Here she is thinking “It could have been me” when she is with another man. Not really a good thing to say – especially if it was the 2 carats that prompted “It could have been me!”.
Even if Cathy hadn’t dumped him six years ago, it still wouldn’t have worked out between them and it has nothing to do with him being 10 years younger than her. It all has to do with compatibility and common interests. Alex is into everything outdoors and fitness-related — diving, biking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, snowboarding, windsurfing, hiking, volleyball, etc. — and she just isn’t. There’s no way in the world she could have kept up with him physically and he wouldn’t have wanted to spend his days/nights/weekends sacked out on the couch doing nothing but mindlessly watching t.v. and binge-eating whatever unhealthy snacks were in the house. The only alternative would have been for them to each do their own thing separately, but how happy would that have made either one of them? Everyone needs a hobby to help them relax and unwind after a stressful day/week, but how were they going to maintain any kind of a long-term relationship if they were always doing everything apart because there was absolutely nothing they enjoyed doing together? ¯\(ツ)/¯
No. The situation is as it should be. Alex moved on and found love with someone a lot more suitable to the way he enjoys living his life; now it’s time for Cathy to do the same.

Good thing I wasn’t in the car with them. My seismic [eye-roll] would have flipped the darn thing sideways …
HI, MOM. Hello, “Cathy” Clan.
Something just made me think of our old friends who we haven’t seen here for so long, such as Aaron, Billy, and koolfunkygrrl. We miss you and hope you’re OK, and we’d love to hear from you again sometime.

So, after all that she ended up with a little black dress and he’s in a suit and tie. …kinda disappointed.
