I think Mr. McPherson’s joke/point is that cupid due to poor eyesight is not appropriately targeting his “love” arrows where they are most needed, and the optometrist does an “now I understand”….get it?

Although several have noted the old saying that love is blind, it’s more accurate to say that it is cockeyed.

Eros is the god of erotic love. This explains a lot in the sense that erotic love wreaks havoc in the world.
