Putting in batteries is better than spending 3 hours putting something together that will not work or has parts missing. Call the help line and order the missing part from China via the operator in India or wherever. I am still waiting three years later for a damaged part to a kitchen faucet from China. Excuses, excuses.
Always put rechargeables in noisy kid toys. Not only is it the green thing to do, but it affords you a little peace and quiet while they are recharging.
My parents were mean - they wrapped each battery SEPARATELY Dozens of boxes, some big, some small, and each one with just ONE battery - then there was the year I wanted a Jeep (I was 17 or 18 at the time), and guess what was under the tree…

The “other” Santa in our house always had to pony up for the batteries. Merry Christmas everyone.
