And Marian devotions have always been part of Anglican theology, coming into strong prominence during the “Oxford Movement,” which had its start during Victoria’s reign.
Are you sure? All the laws discriminating against Catholics were repealed by 1829, before “Good Queen Vic” took the throne. And in her day, in her own church, the High Church movement–Anglo-Catholicism–was very popular.

Susan, yes, there has always been more anti-semitism than anti-catholicism. The point isn’t that there was an absence of prejudice, but that the official stance was for tolerance.
