If Chris Chendo is electrifying the violin, why isn’t there any electrical equipment on his work table…meters and such? I like the scissors. I have similar ones on my Swiss Army Knife. Handy little gadgets.

No wish to get embroiled in the “controversy of strings” on the violin. But as depicted (inaccurately) today, that certainly seems like SIX strings. Below the frets on the “right” we see one end of the arm ending at the “sound box”, and because of the “tilt” the other side is not visable. In fact, the “STRING” to the left runs right down over the box. And no shadows appear to be there.
The drawing is further flawed as all (six) strings run over the Peg box, full length up to the Scroll of the violin, And beyond their intended “tuning pegs”.
Before he breaks out the champagne, the kid might want to find out what the band was booked for. A gig in a Motel 8 lobby? At the Grand Avenue Red Line stop?
Panel 1 : Are we seeing the BACK of the Violin still on ? And are those wooden splinters flying all over the place?
(Why bother to tell us - last Sun. (1-10-10) - “* … Now I gingerly take the back off …*”
Then the “toe finger” is back, the other HAND - just “OBZOKIE”
Panel 2 : Are those “Nigerian ear-rings” below the Scroll of the Strad (?) … instead of “tuning pegs”?
Then look at the inordinate length of the hand behind the violin. It’s way too big to have been guided by Locher “penciling”
The little finger sticks out - is he clipping his nail
Where is the ARTISTIC PROBITY one expects in a comic strip like Dick Tracy ?
”OBZOKIE” (from “Obliquité _fr_) local meaning - Clumsy, Ungainy. Awkward in appearance. Anything bent or out of place.
On the bright side, someone in the DT universe has finally gotten the hang of holding on to a cell phone like a normal human, rather than having it glued to his fingertips or floating inside his hand.
Lochers method of getting from the beginning of a story to the end is akin to an elephant running from the front to the back of a china store. Blast your way through and if things get in the way, ignore them like they don’t exist.
There sure is a lot of comments everyday.
Today’s strip actually seems to be going faster than usual, not refreshing us on what’s already happened for once.
I also really liked the first panel.
“Frets” are immaterial to the discussion on the number of “strings”. I’ve used the word only to guide your attention to the areas I’m referring to - i.e the “sound box” over which all SIX strings run and the “TUNING PEGS” which are by-passed by the strings instead of going *to* them in Bronzen’s panel.
Look at the “link” to understand the latter point.
Earlier in the story the Violin was drawn correctly, with 4 strings. If current “art” is so awfully poor that it creates illusions, that’s not the fault of readers. Art is not a foreign language that requires painful “interpretation” from “specialist observers” for understanding or appreciation. Were it “good” it would be apparent to all.

I think he’s cutting off those extra strings. About the only strings he knows about are those that you slip a rolled-up dollar under.
