That’s probably because you can borrow books from the library instead of having to buy them from a store.

Maybe they should make books chewable.

Consider this library books are checked out for free just don’t forget to return them or pay a fee. People who buy books have to sell them or give them away. When they sell them at garage sells they have to be cheap or yet they still give them away. Books also last longer then gum. Me I don’t chew gum but enjoy reading. Takes me places.

I buy most of my books (Alibris, Amazon) and share them with friends. I only use the library to read books that are too expensive or out of print…and I don’t chew or smoke;-)

I can always reread a book, but my bubble gum loses its’ flavor on the bedpost overnight.

If Grandpa’s statistic is true, it’s appalling enough to leave me speechless.

You’re right Carmy. I’ve always thought the library was the most wonderful thing. You can usually get just about any book you want even new ones if you’re willing to wait for it (since everyone else wants to read it too) and be willing to return it in two weeks. But you can read it for free and even if it’s overdue and you have to pay a fine, it’s usually not very much so it’s well worth it. If I really enjoy the book and think I may want to read it again I can then decide to buy it.
