In 1916, their first year, SMU had five turn out for band – a bit small to play Sousa marches. However, the instrumentation was a trumped, clarinet, tenor sax, trombone, and percussion – ideal for dixieland. Therefore, they still play primarily big-band swing arrangements, with improvised solos.
Yeah, that’s why your children should go to college: attend football games and watch marching bands, and, above all, participate in wild alcohol fueled parties. Education? What’s that? It’s been so dumbed down so much that 99% of the “graduates” can’t even read, write, or spell! Science? That’s for nerds, not “real” students. Real students explore hard hitting subjects as “emotive dance”, or “basket weaving appreciation”, or my favorite “class warfare among the ancient Mayan alpacas!”. No wonder the U.S. is in such dire straits!

Some schools have had their brass instruments stolen for either brass metal salvage or vigilante noise suppression.

Always check with your doctor to see if you’re healthy enough for sax.
