I wonder whether the real “Streisand effect” would occur if I went on some forums… not here, but news sites and such, and said Brevity was depraved and should be banned.

Might get you guys some new subscribers!

Meanwhile…. I think a hundred or two per seat, unless you want good ones. Yikes.

And yeah, only 2 A’s in her first name… for all that money, you should get FOUR!

Bri… that’s what the Streisand effect is about… sort of.

It’s really about trying so hard to hide, destroy or discredit something you make it visible…or even famous.

The only thing I ever liked Barbra Streisand doing was “What’s Up, Doc?” In fact, one of my favorite comedies from that era. I never could stand Barbra’s singing or her personality otherwise. I knew how to spell “Barbra” but this is the first time I heard of the “Streisand effect”!

Not much of a fan either. I remember this one song she did with Neil Diamond, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Anymore. Throughout the whole song I kept thinking to myself, 1.Stop whining about it, and 2. Move on with your life, buy your own darn flowers if you have to. Quite the romantic, aren’t I?

She dropped the second ‘a’ when she was young and has often joked that that was what was holding her back. Fan or not, she’s one of the few to have won Oscars, Emmy and Grammy awards.

According to Wikipedia, the Streisand Effect is the phenomenon where trying to hide or remove a piece of information results in making it more visible. Coined after her 2003 attempt to stop publication of pictures of her house. Seems appropriate during an election year—.

I once read that her first agent told her her name was too long and to make it shorter, thinking to change Streisand to Sand. Instead, she changed Barbara to Barbra.

Right from the start (yep I’m that old) I chuckled that she would choose a name that sounds like an undergarment to be worn in the pub.

I am so old, I can remember when her signature song was “Wake Up the Witch is Dead” from Wizard of Oz. She appeared with it several times on PM East with Mike Wallace!

There was no other way to spell it, until Babs, then in her 20s, encountered a psychic who told her she’d be a huge star if she dropped the middle A. Well, she’s been a huge something, that’s for sure.
