Elephants sometime bury their dead beneath a pile of twigs and branches! Although residents of Guam, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are US citizens, they are not allowed to vote in US Presidential elections. A person who suffers from laughter induced syncope can completely lose consciousness from just laughing!

How about we let them vote and then they are required to pay taxes. Might help a bit with the debt. Hey, that sounds like a good idea, I should run for president! (except I’m about twelve years too young)

Elephants burying their dead on Election Day brings to mind some provocative comments but I won’t go there.

I live in a solid-color state, so my vote won’t change anything anyway. We need to do away with the electoral collage.

I was in Hawaii when they voted for Statehood. There were a lot of financial reasons Not to become a State.

Too bad Biden didn’t lose consciousness during the debate….

There is no requirement in the U.S. Consitution that citizens be permitted to vote directly for president.
Red_Fez about 12 years ago
Nah… Dems vote early, Republicans vote when they get home from work.

I meant that the U.S. Constitution does not require states to allow citizens to vote for president. The states could, for example, have the legislature vote for the electors for president. Of course, this would not happen with current state laws and constitutions.

I just wish all states divided their electors according to congressional districts. After all, the number of electors a state has are apportioned partly by the number of representatives they can send to Congress. If those representatives represent their own parts of the state, so should the corresponding presidential electors, rather than being winner-take-all. If all but the electors corresponding to the senators were elected regionally, it would change the dynamics of presidential elections entirely and be more representative of the makeup of each state.

There are reports that in a non-binding referendum, Puerto Ricans voted for statehood.
