The problem is not the tinfoil per se, but whether it reflects the microwaves back at the magnetron.

I’ve done it before, but if you’re quick to shut it off, there’s no problem. I’ll tell you something that is VERY cool, though! Take a cd that you don’t want, and put it in the microwave. Turn it on and after a few seconds, you’ll hear a sizzling pop—turn off the microwave, and the cd will have cool little cracks running all through it. THAT is cool. You can take several of them, if you’d like (I’d probably only do 1 at a time) and you can make some cool decorations out of them. It’s even cooler if there is some design on them and not just a plain gray or silver top, you know? Trust me—this will be perfectly okay for your microwave.

You can microwave ant metal that does not have pointed ends. I microwave spoons and stainless steel pet food bowls all the time. The first time I did it in front of my mom I thought she was going to have a conniption.

Yup. When I was a kid just got back from summer camp where we learned to make a dessert in the campfire by wrapping it in tin foil. Wanted to recreate it at home. Oops.

Interesting bunch of comments! I seldom use the micro for anything with metal, but warm many meals that way which I have frozen.

My sons put a toad in a microwave (in our RV). Thankfully it didn’t explode until it got thrown outside the RV.
