Girl: I love Thanksgiving. Frazz: Yeah! It's like someone figured out how to have a semi-faith-based holiday nobody fights over. Girl: Leaving plenty of aggressive energy for the friday sales. Frazz: I avoid those religiously.
I don’t remember that, but I do remember how Joe Stalin murdered millions of his own people in the name of atheistic communism. And I remember how Mao starved millions of his people to death in service of the theory that collective farms were more efficient.
And I wonder how many Americans have starved in service to the “free market” system.
It is not so much religious belief (that is, belief in God, Allah, Jahweh, Brahman, etc.) that gets us in trouble, as absolute belief that leads us to harm each other in the name of our convictions.
True…so let’s reserve some of our gratitude for those who introduced us to turkey, corn, pumpkin, and so many of the other things on our tables today and every other day (see http://www.collegefund.org/).
Yes, ne7minder55, you have a point here which is supported by the Bible. One thing Jesus said was “As you have done unto the least of these my brothers you have done it unto me.” So those who did the backbreaking work under the hot sun are Jesus. And should be thanked as such.
Can the “first Thanksgiving” garbage. People all over the world have had such celebrations for millennia, mainly, but not exclusively, for harvest. The first, by Europeans in the western hemisphere, was by the Frobisher expedition – for surviving the winter on Baffin Island.
Way to go! Once again, a strip is ruined by self-righteous idiots who mistakenly believe their morality is superior. My question to you: whom am I talking about?
Actually, not anymore. As atheists, you are no longer allowed to have holidays off and you are required to work all holidays and not get any holiday pay. You are also required to work both Saturdays and Sundays.

Thanksgiving doesn’t get specific about which deity The Smiths can thank one and the Wilsons another.

Well, so far the comments today have proved Frazz’s center panel comment wrong.

Let’s not forget to give thanks to all the hard workers in retail, WalMart greeters, etc… I do wonder how the greeters at WalMart handle the rush.
One long sentance, I imagine…WelcometoWalMartWelcometowalMart.WelcometoWalMartWelcometowalMart

See, this is why I refer to Frazz strips as “Official Derp Magnets.” For anyone interested in the historical basis of Thanksgiving:

This semester, my husband has a student named Jesus. But his nickname is Zeus, which I find so … um … ironic.

Some people use religion as a weapon. That doesn’t mean religion is bad. It means that people can use it in bad ways.
