I honestly feel the way they both feel, I went into this election with out the hope felt in 2008, and I didn’t feel Romney was a strong enough candidate to really swing my vote that way, in the end I had no love for either of these guys or the current state of either party. I hope for some better choices and some more moderate politicians next time around, truth be told bi-partisan politics from both sides have put us where we are today, and bi-partisan politics will not get us out of it, we need more folks who are willing to bring all ideas to the table listen to each others sides actually focus on what we have in common so we can achieve whats achievable and give a little and take a little on what we have differences in. I’m probably grasping for the stars in thinking politicians should actually have our best interests in heart and not their own.
Yeah, I sort of came down somewhere in your area. About the time this strip was drawn, I’m thinking “Are these the best our country can offer”. The answer is of course not. But the rules of the game as they have developed through both major parties keep the most capable people on the sidelines. -——With the choice we were given, maybe it was best for Rita to have run.
Seems the majority is happy with their choice – as long as they got their ‘FREE’ Obamaphones or their ‘FREE’ ObamaMoney. As for me, I am NOT a happy person, and I agree with Rita. :(
JZ/TSR—-“Discaded” as needed? Did you mean “discarded”? As unpatriotic as it may be, I could not bring myself to vote for either candidate. Regardless of who won, I believe we are going to be in dire straits for years to come, especially if the large budget cuts (the financial cliff) happens come January 1. With the growing cost of entitlements, rising (it will) unemployment, & an increase of the “47%” who pay little or no taxes, I believe that we are in for another big recession or a depression. I hope not, but fear it will happen.
I don’t understand why we blame the one person at the top when bills and laws have quite a few hands in them. Also not everything that happens in the world/country are of his doing or even any one party’s doing. Personally I just think we need to fire congress and this 2 party system and get someone or a system voted in that is for the people and by the people and not just in it for themselves. I’ll go back in my closet now.
madvirgo—-I stand corrected. Not all of the “47%” are non workers & unemployed. Some are even considered as the working poor. I was referring mostly to the entitlement class, some of whom are in the 3rd & 4th generation welfare group. I believe in helping real people in need, but many do not ever intend to work or try to get a job. These programs if not already so, will eventually be unsustainable, as more go on the public dole, & want the government to sustain their life style. Back in NY in my hometown, 2 companies are laying off workers—nearly 700 from one permanently, & around 200 from the other, by the end of the year. With budget cuts, there will be thousands more in the very near future.
Cuddleman—-I agree with you. The President can only sign or veto a bill, & can even be overridden on the veto. He can suggest legislation he wants, but it is Congress who has the real power & makes the bills. “The buck stops here” President however, usually get the blame or praise.
In 1961, John F. Kennedy made the statement, “Ask not what your country can do for you – Ask what you can do for your country.” In 2012, the Democrats won with scare tactics about how the Republicans are going to take away what the government is doing for people.
Darren Blair – the economy does not turn on a dime. It turns quite slowly. We had eight years of Bush to mess it up. It is only fair to give Obama eight years to turn it around.Of course, if the Republican House is still determined to stonewall him like they did in the last four years, then change will be even slower. We need government officials who are going to come to the table to hammer out solutions rather than play games to unseat each other from power. The only way that is going to happen is to get rid of career politicians permanently. Term limits – and third party candidates.
Romney was smart enough to ease off of the taxes (lower tax rates can actually lead to higher tax revenues if done right) and return certain functions to the private sector where jobs could be created more efficiently.
Tomorrow we’re back to the usual Working Daze- no politics, just fun. We love having lots of comments. But when it gets nasty, and devolves into name calling and other insults- that we don’t like so much. How will our politicians learn to behave better if they see us squabbling like we hate each other?
TSR—-You are absolutely correct about the entitlement class of the wealthy. One I can immediately think of is Nancy Pelosi demanding her own private Air Force plane for transportation, when she could well afford a private jet. Plenty of Repubs in that class too. History Channel is running a great eye opening series about the eary millionaires in this country—Vanderbilt, Carnegi, Rockefeller, JP Morgan, etc..
Night-Gaunt49—-I know what you are saying & I think I did not state things properly in what points I was trying to get across. I am now retired & with my income, probably am in that 47% class myself.
I think Politics are a nasty business, it causes us all to demonize each other. I think we can vent our opinions with out calling each other names or stereo typing each other not all democrats are socialists and not all republicans are “Reichwingers” or religious nuts, I would think in this day and age we could all be more civil about our differences.
As I’ve said: many people throwing around labels like ‘socialist’ and ‘fascist’ don’t even know what the words mean. They only they’re bad, and therefore, they must fit!! “Oooh, the big bad wolf- what a socialist!”
I just want to say one more thing, no one will probably read it though, but it is how I feel after all these comments. There is not a single person to blame for the economical collapse that we are in right now. We had quite a few bad presidents in the past that have caused the problems in the government now. If you want to blame someone, blame the human attitude,i.e. pursuit of profits no matter what the losses are, obstinancy, sense of self-entitlement, and not wanting to work together to solve problems. Until we can learn as a civilization that these principles are not going to help anyone, and, as some have mentioned, we learn to be civil and educated in our discussions, nothing will get better.

If we really had socialism, free healthcare would be paid for by the profits from the nationalized oil wells, and gas would be back to $2 per gallon.

Romney is a zero, but compared to a negative, zero is a positive. I’m disappointed in you, America.

Only in America could a moderate right-winger like Obama be described as “socialist”…

Bwahaha, Obama has won & can now implement his evil socialist agenda of providing affordable healthcare to every American.

At least he can’t run again. May there be someone with more integrity the next go round. (One can hope, can’t one?)

But the FICA contribution was reduced a while back. Since the systm is running out of money this made a lot of sense. NON sense.
