my mother had a Siamese (in the 1950’s mind u) that would perch on the top of doors also.. we had a rather persistent salesman who wouldn’t take no for an answer—and came back several times to our door—well one day he was doing this—and mama’s cat had had enough—she jumped on his shoulders and hissed at him..we never had trouble w/ him ever again—he walked right past our house..and mama’s cat sat in window and watched him pass us by…
My cats have all loved me, and not just when they wanted food. My current one is sad when I’m gone and deliberately comes to see me when I’m nearby. If I go on vacation, she keeps me up all night rubbing against me and purring.
Brian must have seen the same PBS show I watched last week. In “Call the Midwife” (made a couple of years ago, based on a book quoting the memories of someone who was a midwife in the early 1950s), the nutty sister pronounces, “Dogs look up to us, cats look down on us, but pigs look at us as equals.”

I had a cat who was small and agile enough to sit on top of the doors and smack my head as I walked by.

It has been said that “Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.”

I’ll never be cat staff.

Cats love their home and surroundings not people…

You can say THAT again, Earl.
It would be worse having Garfield for a cat.
Having Marmaduke as a dog, however….

Not if you’ve got a great dane. You might be looking up at him.

We are staff for our cats. That is simply how it is.

I have never owned a cat. I have had several, over my lifetime, that have owned me !

I have a cat who actually looks up at me, then puts her paw on the door and ask to be let into my room.
