Oh, to have received socks!! -My grandmother gave me a cardboard teddy bear. I didn’t want anything but that was less than nothing. -Not that I didn’t keep it. I hung it on the wall beside my bed and every day when I woke up I looked at it and said, “Unhuh, a cardboard teddy bear.” -Since I was going to have it there anyway, I wrote my name on it every year from the second grade through the first year at college. My handwriting never improved but now I know thanks to Grandma Green. (I even look like her, but with more hair.)
I now ask for socks. Not the usual tidy, whites with cuffs. I have a friend that knits. And she uses the snazzy, skinny wool. So i ask for socks. Rainbows or stripes. Diamonds or patterned. Doesn’t matter. They are bright, warm and a conversation starter.
Poor Agnes. I had a few Christmases like that as a kid too. Now I make a point to get a gift for a giving tree and donate to the homeless family shelter. I would encourage everyone who reads this strip to buy one toy and donate it, for Agnes!

Be adventurous Agnes! Wear the socks on the wrong feet.
