He looks fat and rich – take away his sodas and tax him – that will create a bunch of jobs.

I know it was crude and mean, it’s just that the cap and general shape made me think of a stereotypical good ol’ boy NRA member. Just a joke. But, I do think the Second Amenders need to remember that he who lives by the sword will die by the sword. The very thing they fight for could be the very thing that can get turned on them.

What changed is WW’s 1 & 2. It scarred the psyche of almost everyone who was there, leading to the home life hypocrisies of the 50’s, which led to the revolt of the 60’s and Vietnam, which led to the immorality of the 70’s, the greed of the 80’s, the violence of today. Mental illness and societal disorders have been ever on the rise. Mostly because war has taught us that life is cheap, the taking of it is a game, and we might as well get ours and be ready to defend it.-We can only partially react to the hand that is dealt us, the real world we live in. But it will never get better until we react to the hand we want to have, the better, peaceful world we wish for. Will that world be better and peaceful if everyone is armed to the teeth? I think not. The opposite is the direction that will bring about what we truly want and need.-Oh, BTW, Wiley’s comic today is about unemployment and the fiscal cliff. This diversion is because of a silly joke I made that some of you want to get serious about. Sorry to the rest.

Thank you. I agree that the joke was barely passable, and regret the stink it has raised. I really should just not respond, but this is something I feel passionate about, so my good sense gets lost in those feelings.-As for specifics to the causal linkages I made, this comment section would not want to see the long comment that would necessitate (and probably wouldn’t read or listen to, anyway), so I refrained from the details. But they exist.

I have to admit, I found your comment humorous for one reason: you continue to cast me as a left leaning liberal (when I’m really not) just because I don’t like guns. Has nothing to do with politics. But, this is the age we live in; when all views must be cast in political terms by the politically motivated. Makes me smile and shake my head in wonder.

Jared Loughtner in Tucson, AZ two years ago, after shooting Congresswoman Giffords and several others, including a young girl…subdued by good guys without guns. -Just because Mr. LaPierre says it don’t make it so. Lots of anecdotal stories on both sides – Sturmmi gave some earlier which are equally true – but the bottom line is still: do we want guns to continue to be an integral part of society? If not, there are things we can do. If we do…then gun up! -But don’t anybody cry about unqualified people getting access to them. See previous comment about non-proliferation, which was ignored by everyone.

If someone were to actually shoot Mr. LaPierre, that would be a tragedy. I think he is the public spokesperson for the NPR and says the kinds of things they want him to say. But, he does do it with clear conviction.-Here’s my real thoughts about it: I don’t believe violence is the answer. But, if guns are so good, then lets give them to the parents of all those lost children, then give them LaPierre’s address and the means to get there. Then, see what the parents judge to be justice.-You continually miss the point, Sturmmi, and that’s why I don’t apologize to you. When you get the point, then we can talk reasonably.-Here’s the point: you cannot control who gets a gun. There’s just too many of them and people are not trained in their proper use. With one gun for everyone in US, that’s guns enough for the unqualified to gain access to. No whining about these tragedies, because they are certain to happen again as long as guns are so available.-Now, if you get that point and acknowledge it and present ideas to nullify it, then you have my heartfelt apology for having offended you. More than that, you’ll have a friend.

I really said: “But, if guns are so good, (pause to think about that) then lets give them to the parents of all those lost children, etc.”-And you know I don’t think guns are so good, so no, I don’t think that’s a great idea. It was a sardonic remark.-As for the rest…Wow…peace, brother!

Apparently I have really ticked you off…-It wasn’t my intention; I thought we were having reasonable and logical thought exchanges. Guess not. I’m sorry to have made you so mad.-As far as conservative or liberal: what do I think about big government? Don’t like it. Wish Congress would pass fewer but more enforceable laws and stay out of our business; also believe in fiscal responsibility and the need to cut wasteful spending and don’t always like how my taxes are used. Conservative, I guess.-What do I think about abortion? Don’t believe it’s right. Conservative, I guess.-What do I think about Hollywood and its productions? Think they are overly violent and immoral. Conservative, I guess.-Freedom of speech and religion? Good for both, but think each can be misused and need checks and balances. Not sure if that’s liberal or conservative.-Don’t like guns. Oops, liberal, I guess.-None of my positions are based on politics. Not one, nil, zip, nada, no way. In fact, and this will really tick you off, I don’t vote and don’t care if there is a liberal or democrat or moderate in office. Honestly. Some politicos think that the problems in the country are my fault because I don’t vote. Can’t see the sense in that. If I didn’t vote for the bums, then it’s not my fault they are there.-It’s hard for you to believe some people have positions that are not politically motivated, but you have met one and I drove you to personal reviling, insults, and ultimately – a last gasp – correcting my grammar and punctuation. I don’t – and won’t – ever intentionally talk to you or anyone that way.-And we ARE brothers: both humans sharing this planet, and we better learn to get along as brothers.-Please don’t love your guns and hate me. That’s a bad choice, brother.
