Mrs. Olsen: you drew me a card? Of a rebellious monk in trendy sandals? Caulfield: Happy Martin Luther's Keens Day! Mrs. Olsen: Clever. If Immature. Caulfield: Thanks! I was wondering how the "junior" fit in.
While visiting Assisi we saw two monks standing in a piazza, conversing. We wondered if their discussion was theological or liturgical. Though we couldn’t hear what they were saying, it was apparent from their gestures (feeling the material of each other’s robes, showing off their footwear) that they were showing off their “outfits.” Probably comparing bargains. So funny, so human.
There are a number of Buddhist temples here in San Francisco, and it’s not uncommon to see monks and monkesses walking around downtown. They’ve got the close-cropped hair (both male and female) and they wear the robes (burgundy, mostly), but underneath they all seem to have modern, sensible, practical footwear.
Night-Gaunt: Genocide is the destruction of a culture. It does not necessarily involve the extermination of those in that culture – it is just that most people are quite satisfied with that culture and won’t abandon it, finding it is too much a part of who they are.

Luther was not an anti-semite in the way people would understand it today.
