Looks like Burl aleady has his tie tucked into his shirt in readiness for some serious eating. He’ll be surprised to find out this isn’t his usual “all you can eat” greasy spoon. And poor Jeff just saw his tip fly, fly away.I can’t believe that they are in a real restaurant anyway. How’d that happen?

That very night Jeff leaves the service industry to become a cartoonist. Coming soon to Sherpa The Living Room Settee.

The guy behind Burl is saying “ah Jeff? Could we change our reservations to tomorrow?”

Maybe if Joy didn’t gulp everything down she wouldn’t belch so much. They probably think wine from the cellar is the cheap stuff, like at their house, if it is good vintage it would be a $15 bottle on display upstairs.

I can’t wait to see what happens when the waiter arrives with their meals, the kind that cover a small spot in the center of the plate. Obviously, the staff saw them coming and removed the bread basket from the table.

Wait til they find out that the salad and dessert isn’t included, and everrything else is ala carte! Maybe its somebody’s birthday or anniversary, after all Joy is wearing her “good” St. John’s logo tee shirt (made in a third world country) that she bought at Dottie’s Discount Duds! They are so crass that they are funny! And after yesterdays confusing strip this one makes perfect sense.

I am sure some of you have been out with people just like the Penny’s. Not by choice but by birth accident or possibly by inheriting “Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim” through marriage!

An aunt of my lover (either now deceased or not in his circle) actually took pride in pocketing anything that was not nailed down. Naturally no one took her to good restaurants so she had a large collection of cheap shakers and cutlery. I think we only saw them at family weddings and funerals (at the latter, HE would always invite the family to a nearby place and now I understand why they were never fine dining). Come to think of it, I think most of his older generation are gone. Only his X and her mother are still around. We visited the daughter of his trouble-making sister on the 30th and she took it upon herself to call after bedtime on NYE to suggest that he call the X “because she was lonely” (must have not known she was on speaker). Fortunately she caused no interruption and he ignored that.

I wonder which of them won the dinner at the nice restaurant. Surely none of them would PAY for one.

Debbie — Restaurant owners see nothing wrong with your using those coupons. If they didn’t want that business, they wouldn’t pay to be in the books.

These days especially…. they’d rather you came for half price than not at all — it helps pay rent and keep staff employed in slow times.Same with Groupon or Restaurants.com, and coupons from the newspaper… they’re in there on purpose.

They hope you’ll come back for full price, of course… but they know many people can’t or won’t, so they only offer deals they don’t mind being accepted. The things that make customers unacceptably Pennyish, though, include being rude, ignorant or demanding, asking for a deal on items not included in the offer, and tipping on only the discounted total…cos the server shouldn’t be punished just because you got a good deal.
