Well at least Shannon is willing to share!

Valentine’s Day would be “ruff” without you.

Pick a Valentine for Shannon, too while you’re at it, Bwad. I think you are one of the few people that she lets into her world.

Make your own, Brad.Produce a selfie with you partially wearing firefighters kit, holding a sign expressing your intentions, and perhaps include that inside a regular cheapie, perhaps one of Shannon’s. It would be like a grown up joke on The Simpsons, works on two levels.

Totally missed a major opportunity for relationship development between Brad and Shannon—he could have hugged her back. The glaring omission of that gesture leads me to think that Brad’s not destined to become Shannon’s new daddy figure any time soon.

Look at Shannon’s big smile on the last 2 panels, She is so happy to try and help Brad and he’s practically ignoring her, shame on you, Brad….. Sadly, there’s only one more day until Valentines, doesn’t look like there will be an engagement after all :(

hey Greg, whats with the lousy relationship issues? Brad looks like he wants to roll over and die, there is no positive interaction between him and the little girl, I mean, whats the point of volunteering to assist someone when its obvious youd rather be dead than assist? How about this, Brad appreciates every single day he has a great gal by his side and he wouldnt care if there were 10 shannons to watch, he knows its all worth it. Shopping for a Valentines means “YOU HAVE A VALENTINE TO SHOP FOR”. duh already

oops you’re right Bic…. I got the year (13) confused with the date…. I have something called “Calculexia”, it is the numerical counterpart to dyslexia (they used to call it “Math dyslexia”) , I get numbers very jumbled in my head (I am sooo embarrassed here ) :S

@pacopuddy..I think Shannon’s angular voice boxes signify that she has been changing her tone of voice whilst trying to communicate with Brad whereas Brad’s uniform boxes show that he has been speaking in a distracted, monotone voice to Shannon. In other words, Shannon has really been open for two-way communication and Brad has shut her out of his thoughts…for the most part.

I really don’t think Brad is ready for a committed relationship with Toni, especially if she hopes for marriage and having a family. He’s still too self-focused.

On the other hand, I just looked back a few strips and her voice bubbles always look like that

A ton of irony in this strip, as “self-centered” Shannon is being blocked by a shockingly, smugly narcissistic Brad, concerned only with finding a suitably sappy Valentine to give to Toni. He was supposed to be helping Shannon shop! I feel sorry for the kid, who is actually trying to be nice to her hero, Bwad….

How about something that says he’ll always makeup if they fight- Wait, been there, applied that!

He should get her a good clean card…that he’d love to train with her in ‘shower 101’ forever ;)

Looks like Brad needs a moment with Shannon like Gene had with Marylou’s daughter on the boat in “Arlo and Janis”. The fear loosened up his feelings for her and the relationship took off.

UMMM. the point is to comment on the strip, should we only talk about what is actually there? Would make the comments pretty dull, don’t you think? “Brad is buying a Valentine, Shannon is trying to help” << Would you like to see this, over and over, instead of a real discussion?

I have no idea who the man with the glasses and ribbon is, just some guy I found online, while looking for a man who looked something like Bernice, I think I chose well :p

Check out August 14th 2010 for “Arlo and Janis” . The story leading up to it is August 3rd 2010. This is the kind of jolt Brad may need.

Brad has two choices here. Either he can treat Shannon like he is now and she develops daddy issues or he starts acting like he cares about her as more than a way to score points with Toni and she begins to heal from the terrible life she has had up until now.

One of my sweetest Valentine surprises was some art that my now-husband/then-fiance made for me on my front door out of kiddie valentines.

A grown man hugging a child who’s not his own in a public place. I think “Bwad” exercised appropriate discretion. Also, why just one VD card? Why not two or more? He could bond a little with Shannon at the same time.

I think Shannon may get frustrated with Brad and act out – bite his finger or something. Hopefully the aftermath would bring everybody closer.

Tiny Tim was a pop figure in the 1960s & 1970s, playing the uke and singing “Tiptoe through the Tulips”. He didn’t appear to be gay, as he married Ms. Vicki on late-night TV. Last time I heard him he was grand marshall of a parade in Jackson, MS, where he looked & sounded the same.*Think he died a while back. You can find out more by goggling Tiny Tim AND ukelele.

Wouldn’t it be ‘funny’ if Brad said “how about this one?”…and when he turned around shannon was gone?

Maybe he’s being coy with her. It’s possible that if he were to try and get close to her, she would back away.

I agreed with LadyJ4 – please let Brad relax and show some genuine concern and attention to this kid – regardless of whether is gains points with Toni or not. My son is a single Dad triying to raise a soon to be five year old who has a mother who thinks of no one except herself. My heart breaks because it is not easy – but I am proud that my son is the good parent.

It’s not about spending a few seconds looking at something. It’s the complete indifference he shows to her on a constant basis. It’s the attitude he shows her when she is trying to interact with him. If you were at the store with someone and they told you to shut up so they can look at a hallmark card how would you react. Everything Brad is saying and doing shows that he couldn’t care less about her and is only tolerating her due to the fact that he wants points with Toni. Shannon deserves better, all children do.

What a hoot.

Man there is such corny Valentine stuff on here, but then corny can be cute and very sexy. Besides the obvious love connection, and the connection between Shannon, who is such a realistic comic child, and Bwad, is so clear, so when is Greg going to get Brad and Tony married, and Shannon adopted, or as a foster child, and when is the next level going to happen for all of our characters? I think Greg might be planning to wrap up all the character arcs because he may be planning to hang up his brush. Anyone else agree, or am I all wet?

I remember portions of the Tiny Tim theme from listening to Dr. Demento’s radio show “top 10 demented hits” on Sunday evenings … awww memories… fishheads, fishheads – rolly polly fish heads … gotta go do some youtubing for him later … LOL
