It usually takes a couple of puffs or stiff drinks to make comic strips look like this. This time I had to see whether that would make it clearer. It didn’t, but I feel much better now.
The “MEN SHOULD BE OFFENDED” post is a very dangerous message to be sending to young women. We should be teaching them to behave maturely and responsibly, instead of giving them unrealistic expectations and encouraging behavior that puts them in danger.
Even if a young woman was nude, that still would not be an invitation to be raped, nor would it be an excuse for a man to rape her. A man should not be ruled by his" ispen", anymore than a woman is ruled by her time of the month. Really, maybe we all should grow up and learn there’s nothing wrong with some self-discipline, so we can control ourselves. Even the lustiest woman I know would not attempt to forcibly impale herself on a ispen just because it was attached to a man whose broad, hairy chest or well-muscled leg was showing. Why should it ever be considered all right for a man to try to forcibly insert the same ispen into a female who happens to be showing a bit of cleavage, or a couple of inches of thigh?
This “MEN SHOULD BE OFFENDED” meme sure has provoked some troubling comments.
Commentator, you’re sort of missing the point. Nobody is suggesting that women should take risks or put themselves in harm’s way. The “Men Should Be Offended” graphic is suggesting that we should not excuse or accept rape culture. I don’t blame you, though, because that graphic’s choice of words is confusing and does carry some unintended connotations.
I can think of better ways the message could have been conveyed.
Pcolli, you seem to be saying rape happens because parents can’t control how their children dress. This is a bizarre assumption, and I’m sure if you go looking for any research or data to back up what you said, you will be looking for a very long time.
As to this question of whether men should be offended, I personally am not offended at all by the suggestion that all men are potential rapists, because guess what: The statistics indicate that we are.
If I attempted to count the number of women I’ve known who have been victims of sex crimes I wouldn’t even know where to start.
Boys and men need to be trained not to violate sexual boundaries, and you can’t effectively give them that training if you don’t acknowledge their ability (and even their predisposition) to violate sexual boundaries.
I think that’s Vlad’s younger, smaller cousin, in his Western getup, socking some vagrant cowpoke who deserves it. Must be he made an offensive comment about what the “little ladies” wear, and how he had to watch himself.

Strangely I can read that easier without my glasses, but the figure still looks fuzzy.

Looks like someone is trying to gin up a mob against creative people! Should we help, Teresa? Should we help Teresa? (I love commas; don’t you?)

Dyed Ice Iglo – I think there’s an “o” missing in that title, Teresa. But it’s a beautiful thing…

Yeah, start with banning all creative tools – and hide the cutlery, with these artistic types you can’t be too careful.
